Is anyone going to be in Seattle in, like, a month or so?
You may want to consider it.Update:
Ahem. So anyway. Tom, Eric, Connor, Rick, and I will all be at
ARGFest in Seattle this year. It's from July 25-27 and you should totally come and hang out if you have any way of coming to town.

*glances around*
*raises hand*
I wasn't quick on the draw enough to get PAX tickets, though.

In what is entirely not a coincidence, I will be.
Dana, mind if I announce why you're asking about this?

HERE ARE THE DEETS OF OUR TALK:
KILLING ADELL: Tailoring Your Game to the People Playing It
No matter how long you spend creating your world, and no matter how much you plan, your players will come along and do things you won’t expect. Your game takes place in a complex moral landscape where you won’t have much time to react when the players take a hard left. But no pressure.
The creators of the TV Tropes ARG The Wall Will Fall discuss the (many) times that they found themselves surprised by player choices, and how they adapted based on the way their players were playing their game.
After all, it’s not everyday a player volunteers to die.
So yeah, you should all go! It will be awesome. Tickets are pretty cheap!

Seattle Center? That's like in my backyard.
I don't think I have any way of recording video though. (Or at least a video of high-enough quality to watch without contracting motion sickness.)

Aw, man, I have NEVER wished I was in America so much as in this moment. Never.

Yeah, ARG-Fest doesn't record their panels, so it would be great if someone did =P Just throwing that out there. That would also allow our international players to see it =)

I should hype my own presentation.
REINVENTING THE WHEEL: Building the Audience for Interactive Fiction
When a new book is made, nobody has to teach the consumer how to read the book. The same goes with new video games, new movies, or new television shows. But implicitly, every single ARG needs to be ready to teach new players how to participate. My discussion is why that necessity is good, and ways to incorporate such techniques into your ARG. Examples from The Wall Will Fall will be included, both in terms of what to do and what not to do.

I will be working. Far away on my side of the continent. Jaaaaaaack (or ANYONE), if you can record it, even a motion-sickness quality recording (hey, we can still LISTEN to it!), you will have all the hugs. All of them.

Side note - I had Tweeted about wanting to do ARGfest for some time... know when they reached out to me about it? April 11. Folks may remember that as the day 33_Footsteps was born.
I held off on sharing that part because I didn't want to tip my hand early ... but that day had live Tweeting, ARGfest asking me what presentation I'd want, a kind note from Molly Ringwold, and Zoë's birth. Really huge day.

This sounds AWESOME!
I'm sad I won't be able to travel there. I would very much like to see a video of both panels if that's at all possible.

Ordered and confirmed. I now have my ticket. I'll spend some time over the next month trying to figure out if getting video of the panels is feasible.

Given that it's starting in two days, have you managed to figure out if you're going to be able to record the audio of the panel, at the very least?

Probably not. The stuff I have at home already is more geared toward recording in shlrt bursts, and I'm much busier this week than I had anticipated. I'll keep working on it, though.

I was speaking more toward the GMs, given that they said they were going to try and get the panel recorded somehow, but Ok.

I am double-posting to say good luck to the GMs, as the panel is scheduled to happen in....*checks watch* a little under 8 hours. I hope it goes well!

It's been exciting so far. Highlights have included finally meeting others who worked on it with me, discussing Avatar: the Last Airbender shipping (Orphan is an f'ing pimp, is all I'll say), and seeing Jack's reaction to reading some of our prototype design documents.

Heads-up for those of you who are interested but don't have a twitter account that has just been inundated with cause for jealousy-- there's been a lot of livetweeting of the panel, particularly from Jack, that's fun to look at. And by fun I mean 'torment'.
*Looks forward to Rick sharing video*
