Can't Stop Making Songs

Postby Qara-Xuan Zenith on Sun Jan 13, 2013 11:37 pm

Seriously, it's like a virus or something. I mean, I know that the deadline's passed-- that Cthulhu's been defeated-- that the game ended-- that even the Post-Mortem's been locked-- but my brain keeps throwing out perfectly good TWWF-themed lyrics to various songs, and so... well, here's this thread. Two songs have already spawned, and, who knows, maybe I'll even record them at some point. Meanwhile, anyone else afflicted with the same madness as me, well, I guess this is our new outlet!

To the tune of Brand New Day from Dr. Horrible:
Audio

Lyrics:
This appeared as a moral dilemma
Cause at first it was weird though we had to refictionalize
All of the ones who could threaten reality
It's true we were vague on the 'How'
So how can it be that you
Have shown us the light?

It's a brand new day
And the sun is high
All the birds are singing
Cthulhu's gonna die
How we hesitated
Now I wonder why
It's a brand new day

All the times the Cabal hacked the forums I'll forgive
All the crimes they committed, listen honestly I'll live
LJS is refic'd; they sent back Moriarty too
Now Adell won the fight and we owe it all to you
Who showed us the light

It's a brand new tram
We've got no regrets
Now the stakes are rising; time to hedge our bets
We're gonna save the world
We'll save Quixote's pets
It's a brand new day

And Mr. A will see the Metaguard me
Not a joke not a dork not a failure
And the Wall may crack, but we'll put it back
When we scan the last piece that JR found in Australia.

It's a brand new day
Yeah the sun is high
We won't hear Angel sing
But Cthulhu's gonna die
Go ahead and laugh
Yeah Prime's a funny guy
So what if he did lie?
It's a brand new day

To the tune of For Good from Wicked (in my defense, this happened as a result of this twitter exchange) :

Audio

Lyrics:
I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I'm not sure if that is true at all
But I know I'm who I am because
Of The Wall Will Fall

Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a tram
Like a tram that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because of The Wall Will Fall
I have been changed for good

It well may be
That we will never all meet up
In Real Life
So let me try to make this plain:
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a hacker in my brain
And now whatever way this story ends
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friends...

Like a tram blown from its rails
By a wind off the sea
Like a tram dropped by a skybird
In a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because of The Wall Will Fall

I have been changed for good

And just to clear the air
I ask forgiveness
For the gambits that I pulled off wrong

But then, I guess we know
There's plots to spare

And none of it seems to matter for too long

Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a tram
Like a tram that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood

Like a tram blown from its rails
By a wind off the sea
Like a tram dropped by a bird in the wood

Who can say if I've been
Changed for the better?
I do believe I have been
Changed for the better

And because of The Wall Will Fall...

Because of The Wall Will Fall...
I have been changed for good.

Well I'm rather happy to be acknowledged in a parody song especially in that Australia section.

I should have written this one a LONG time ago. To the tune of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", obviously.

Audio

Lyrics:
I've heard there was an app the Mod
Used to defeat the Elder God
But you don't really care for iphones, do you?
It had the Ankh, the triskele of old,
The kanji for strength, the symbol for gold,
The colours of a rainbowed Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You thought your plan just couldn't fail
You told it to Holmes via email
But Moriarty's cunning overthrew you
So Morgan chained him to a bed
She refic'ed him as good as dead
And from his lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hey, Mr. A, we're not that thick
We cracked that code, we wrote that fic
We used to work alone before we knew you.
We've seen your face in the Echo app
And we're not here just to be your sap
We're a tram and we're united-- Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time Prime told us all
What's going on with the Fourth Wall
But turns out he broke it, and he broke it to you
Remember when Gurt was just a meme?
Now he's Ascended to our team
That's awesome enough to deem it Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe there’s a clue you missed
But still, you've learned a lot from this
And Scarab was so bonsus when she drew you
It doesn't matter what they claim;
It’s so much more than just a game:
We're a tram and we're united-- Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Lead by example. Get lost in a swamp.

All right, here are two long-overdue songs. The first, to the tune of The Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha, is really an obvious choice-- I'd intended to make this since over a month ago, but haven't had the free moment for it until now.

The second, to the tune of The I Love You Song from The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee... well, I'd initially planned to adapt it during the real run-up to Adell fighting Cthulhu. I opened up the document, copy-pasted the lyrics, and then realized that if I actually did this, I would cry too much, so instead I did the silly Mary Poppins one. Now, though, I think enough time has passed that it's a safe bet Adell's going to make it, so I revisited the song and finished off the lyric-changing. Enjoy!

First, The Impossible Dream:
Audio

Lyrics:
To win the impossible game
To sing the unsingable song
To bear the unbearable tramwrecks
To plot, though it takes us so long
To write the unwriteable fic
To type to your friends from afar
To try when your brain is too fuzzy
To reach the unreachable ARG
This is my quest
To follow that plot
No matter how hopeless
No matter how fraught
To write for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to face Cthulhu down
Despite all of our flaws
And I know if we'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That the chat will be peaceful and calm
When Adell's put to the test
And the void will be better for this
That one tram, scorned and cut to the quick
Still strove with its last ounce of courage
To write the unwriteable fic

And The I Love You Song:
Audio

Lyrics:
ADELL
If I go to fight Cthulhu
Will I be on my own?
Because if I go to fight Cthulhu
Whose songs will power my smartphone?

METAGUARDS
We always knew you were a winner
We see it when you prod
Start from the beginning
When you were a beginner
You were the perfect mod
We always knew
We always knew
You were a champion
Your motivation filled our chats
Dear if you should start to go bats
Blame it on me
Blame it on the children in your Trammalee
‘Cause obsession runs in our family

We love you
We love you
We love everything about you 'Dell
And I swear it’s true
We love you

ADELL
I love you

METAGUARDS
And my dad says

ADELL, METAGUARDS
We love you
We love everything about you, Dad
And Adell it’s true
We love you

METAGUARDS
I wrote you a c!fic
How I found the ARG such fun
Papa, Papa, Papa
But you didn’t react
And you never asked me
If I’d join you 'gainst the Eldritch One
Papa, Papa, Papa
I had quietly packed
When are you returning?
I know we agreed
Tell me Cthulhu's burning
Dad, I have, Oh God, this need
I think the chatroom's freaking, Dell
And I do not know what to do
Papa, Papa, Papa
song, short story, and poem
I think Eli PMs to me
What she wants to PM to you
Papa, Papa, Papa
How I wish you were home
How I wish you were home
How I wish you were
Wish you were home

ADELL, METAGUARDS
We always knew you were a winner

METAGUARDS
A badass Team Dad, too
God, we love the way you drew

METAGUARDS
How I wish you were
How I wish you were home

METAGUARDS
Adell, we couldn’t be prouder

METAGUARDS
Papa, Papa, Papa
How I wish you were home

ADELL, METAGUARDS
Please let me say it
One time louder
We love you
We love you
We love everything about you, Dad

METAGUARDS
And Adell it’s true
We love you

On Shane's advice, the following is a love song to neatchat, begging them to return to us because there is absolutely no other chat that we can tolerate enough to use as a backup. To the tune of "Don't Write Me Off" from Music and Lyrics.

Audio

Lyrics:
It’s often been easy for me
To find words to go along with a melody
And this time there’s actually something on my mind
So please forgive these few brief awkward lines

Since I met you, my whole life has changed
It’s not just my pub quizzes you’ve rearranged
I was living in the chat, but somehow the server's down
And I haven’t felt like this since Mr. A gave me a frown

And while I know, based on your track record,
You might not seem like the safest bet
All I’m asking you is don’t crash the chat, just yet

For months I’ve been telling myself the same old story
That I’m happy to live on my so-called forum glories
But you’ve given me a chatroom to talk to all my friends
Neatchat, I need you, despite the fact that you don't log PMs

And though I know, I’ve already tried more chatrooms
Than anyone should ever get
All I’m asking you is don’t crash the chat, just yet
Don’t crash the chat just yet

I remember, back when it was real, I considered adapting Simon and Garfunkel's I Am A Rock, mostly because the first two lines fit perfectly, and I had a great idea for the refrain. But then I worried that it was too depressing to work. So I've revisited it now, finally. :D
(Note: It's written first-person as though I were Adell. Because this makes sense.)

Audio

Lyrics:
A winter's day
In a deep and dark December;
I am not alone,
They gaze from their computers to the livestream of my fight
As I do battle 'gainst Cthulhu with all my might
I am a mod,
I am a Metaguard.

We'll fix the Wall,
With our music and our writing
And none may breach it.
I have the Power of Friendship; friendship gives us strength
From our chatroom and our jokes there's much to gain
I am a mod,
I am a Metaguard.

Don't talk of spam,
But I've heard the word before;
It's sleeping in my memory.
I won't disturb the slumber of spambots that have died.
If I did not delete them they would never hide.
I am a mod,
I am a Metaguard.

I have my books
And my smartphone app to protect me;
I am shielded in my armour,
Backed by the Cabal, come to fix the Wall
I'll touch Cthulhu but Cthulhu won't touch me
I am a mod,
I am a Metaguard.

And a mod feels no pain;
And a story never cries.

AAAAANnnnd Xana requested a Chain Wars song, which of course put the bug in my ear and I couldn't rest until I'd written one. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you were looking for, and this is not to preclude anyone else from also writing one, but anyway, to the tune of ABBA's I Have A Dream:

Audio

Lyrics:
I have a dream, a game to play
To help me cope, get through the day
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future even if you fail
I believe in Alice
An Underlander tied to everyone I see
I believe in Alice
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream

I have a dream, a fantasy
To help me through reality
Rabbit, Hare, and Hatter make it worth the while
White Knight and both Cat-halves, ready with a smile
I believe in Alice
Something strange in everything I see
I believe in Alice
When I know the Queens both hunt for me
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream

I have a dream, a game to play
To help me laugh, to have my way
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future and we will not fail
I believe in Alice
An Underlander tied to everyone I meet
I believe in Alice
When the time is right, she's not so sweet
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream

Good ones, and I really like the line "I have my books".

Because, you can guarantee that this Metaguard typing surprisingly values his books over his weapons. I'd be willing to discard my weapons in the most desperate situations but I will NEVER, EVER, give up my favourite books. Also, all the characters in the ARG came from Literature, so that makes sense.

I had an Idea to make an Floating Castle song to the tune of Sargent Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band (transitioning in to "With a Little Help from my Friends" if I need it)
Its kinda working. I have never written lyrics before. I'm a little scared of my brain right now.
