Playtest for meeeeee~! (New Build!)

Heya All,
Soooo... Val and I have been working on a game for a while now -- it's a riff on Phoenix Wright that deals with philosophy rather than law, and is meant to teach the basics of critical thinking! It's pretty ridiculous. The time has come to make it as good as can be, which is where you guys come in!
We need you all to play through it, let us know what parts made you laugh, where you got stuck, any move you felt was illogical, and so on. Val has written up some specific questions on here blog post here. The game may take a bit to load -- it's a big'un -- but any feedback would be appreciated.
The game will no longer end on a cliffhanger, but it still isn't done =PNOTE: It's best if you play the game with as little info as possible. Please note that this thread will likely contain some spoilers! Send your feedback to me by email (connorefallon[at]gmail[dot]com) or PM!

I'll give it a go and make sure to take notes as I play.
Also, this topic is a nice one. It could be in Projects instead of Off-Topic, I think.

And moved.

I immediately chuckled at this segment:
Billy the Salesman wrote:They [deer] steal our jobs!
Sounds familiar...

I referenced that in the ARG somewhere, did I not? I don't remember. XD
It originated from this project. We'd been working on it off and on for a while.

Yes. Yes you did.

Oh, right. That was actually Val's doing. =) Which explains why I knew it was referenced but didn't remember how.

And it's done. I sent my review both to Val through the email outlined in the page and as a PM to you here Connor.
Very nice game, I look forward to seeing the final version. If there's something in my notes that you guys want more detail on, let me know, I'm happy to help out.

I had written out my points in a huge post, and then I saw Pixel's. So, you've got another PM coming, Connor.

I haven't had time to play it much yet, but I am pleased to learn where the deer stealing our jobs thing came from.

I feel that this kind of thing works better being private. Otherwise my opinions could color the way other people will see the game when they go in to test and think about it. And the other way around, as something that's just fine by my book might begin to bother me once I see someone pointing out why it bothers them.
So I'd rather not engage in public discussion until after the final product is out. But, that's just me, I guess.

What I like to do in that situation is get everyone to play the game/watch the movie/read the book/whatever by themselves first, and then bring all of their stuff to the table at the same time. That way, everyone gets to learn from everyone else's experiences, without having other people's opinions directly inform their own impressions.
That's a bit unwieldy on a public forum, since there's no way to prevent someone from reading a post before playing the demo, but I guess my point is that I'm interested in what you had to say about the game.

That's easy enough to arrange.
Sharing my thoughts isn't an issue. I'll forward the PM for you then.
And Connor, if you want to bring any of the points I made to public discussion, that's perfectly fine by me.

This is all true.
Guys, you can email Val and I your responses at vreznitskaya[at]gmail[dot]com and connorefallon[at]gmail[dot]com, respectively, or of course PM them. Let's keep the spoiler-y discussion here to a minimum, fresh impressions are always best.
After most people have played, we can open public discussion.

I was telling my sister about this, and now she's planning to also play it and give feedback. This should be interesting, since she's even less familiar with video games than I am (but possibly even more into philosophy, so it evens out)...

... Am I the only one getting urges to write on the philosophical question Jones is supposed to answer in the game?

I'm sure that's what the developers intended.

Thanks so much to everyone who's playtested so far! We've gotten a lot of great feedback. =D
Oh I remember that article. That was mostly me being out of random ARG-related things to put on the back. I'm amazed (and amused) that you guys remembered it!

I found this game enjoyable and if i don't find out what happens at the end of the game I am going to kill someone. I found the characters very... human, they made mistakes and some times the dad got caught up in himself. I never felt they were too over the top or to hammed up

Xana, killing is illegal. And immoral. And a dick move.

Trying to play through it now.
Man is it fun and hard.
I haven't thought this much in ages.
The scale of morality is a strange one isn't it.

I swear that if deer
were taking our jobs we'd have read it in the
Daily Mail by now.

I've emailed my responses.
Also, I realized: The "Deer Stealing Our Jobs" headline clearly means that the salesman from the game crossed the fourth wall during the crisis!

Going to have a new build up soon with a few tweaks, one major change, and the rest of the chapters up soon. Best if you haven't played before due to that one major change, but there is new content for everyone.
