So, this is like the Idea Thread in the RP subforum, but this one's specifically for people to post up random story ideas they want to share or want people's opinion on. Here's to some awesome brainstorming guys!

Uh, I had this idea in the shower (because all the great ideas come in the shower). Say people are reincarnated after their death, but, as per regular mythology, don't remember their past lives, ie, they are a new person each life. Then there are the few who do remember their lives, the long chain of memory doesn't break for them (Required Secondary Power: Eidetic Memory). These are the Immortals (because they don't 'die' duh). Several Immortals have banded together in order to break this endless cycle of life and death, trying to break out of the circle and into what they call 'Final Heaven'. Other Immortals think that these guys are crazy and simply want to die. Either this creates a "save-the-world-before-they-blow-it-up" situation or Earth becomes intersected with another plane of existence, leading to awesomeness/death/monsters/post-apocalyptic wasteland/AU. The latter option is probably a whole other story by now But yeah, the Quest for the Final Heaven. Any thoughts?

Now this other idea is more of a request for advice. In essence, I've been thinking about having this character who essentially had his soul split as a result of an accident. This resulted in several hims. There are two or three copies of him, with the exact same body, personality, everything. They are semi-autonomous, ie. can hold conversations and do stuff, but they defer to him. My question is, how do I write a character like that? .-.

Final Heaven idea is really cool. WRITE IT!

Now, the split character. It depends on what you're going for. If you do more of a Supers setting, you might just want to demonstrate his peculiarity and then stick to writing Prime guy while showing the copies as you need them.

Otherwise, something I think could be interesting is to pull off perspective shifts, either from his (and copies') PoVs. Or from other people who see him as being seemingly everywhere at once. This would be hard to write well though. The reveal may just sound like an Ass Pull if the roots and lampshades aren't set up properly, on the other hand, it can be a rather engaging mystery.

Hm. The split-soul thing has a lot of potential, including potential pitfalls depending on how you handle it. I've seen a few things that have a similar kind of idea, though your description is distinct from those. I won't mention them here unless you want me to, because I wouldn't want you to suddenly have influences you weren't counting on when you're trying to build up your own story.

I'd recommend making some decisions about the character first, before dealing with the anomaly. What was he like before? What are his major strengths and weaknesses AS A NORMAL PERSON? Then, once you have an idea of who he is, the questions become: How does this accident change him? How does he adjust to his newfound abilities?

If I were writing the story, that's where I'd put my focus.

So I talked about this idea back in the chatroom a bit back, and have been developing it in my head. Here goes the description...away!

A man named Anewl awakens in a white void of a room, not knowing where he is or really who he is. He can remember his name, some random facts, and enough to communicate, but nothing about his past or family. After a bit of thinking he starts moving around the room until he comes across another figure, a rather short man with a bright smile known as Beauty. He of course says Anewl can call him by his other name, Airthus. He explains that Anewl was summoned here because he has been tasked with taking over a position on the Council, a group of 25 people who reign over an element of humanity and careful watch over it. He is tasked with visiting each of the 25 until he finds one whose position calls to him, and than he will take over for them. Anewl is confused of course and asks whats going on, but Airthus simply explains that all will become clear as he continues exploring.

The story is will then follow Anewl as he explores the different concepts, learning things about humanity and how the Council members watch over them. There is no real villain in the story (a first for me) but instead just follows Anewl as he learns about his own place in the world, and how the people of the world learn and interact with the principles the 25 members rule over.

The goal I set with this story is to try and put everything into a different light than how it might normally be seen, and give all things an interesting view. A few ones I have that I am excited (and admittedly a bit nervous) about writing are Death, Terror, and War.

So what do you guys think?

It's an interesting world. I think the first thing you should consider is, if there isn't a villain, what's the driving conflict in the book? Is it the tension between Anewl and his lack of knowledge of the world around him, or is it something that runs deeper than that? Either way, I'd love to read what you have when you're ready to share it.
