NaNoWriMo Entries Group 2013

Postby Scarab on Tue Oct 08, 2013 5:59 pm

Since so many of us are taking part in NaNoWriMo this year, I figured we could use a little motivation, and what's more motivating than group specifically dedicated to the goal of cranking out a full story of 50 000 words in a month?

...Probably a few things, actually, but never mind!

I've started a neatchat room specifically for that very purpose. I also thought it would be a good idea for us to set aside a day where we can all get together and discuss our ideas, brainstorm, or otherwise complain about how difficult it is :P. inked here is the doodle document where we shall schedule a time to have weekly (at least) Nanowrimo meet ups and chats. They would take place in the neatchat linked below. If you're doing Nano and would like to take part, please leave the days you can work in the doodle doc linked below. I'll be checking in by Friday to decide on a time that's good for most of us.

The Doodle Doc for Scheduling Writer Meet Ups.

Feel free to drop in at any time to discuss your ideas, brainstorm with others, or just complain about how much getting over the 20K word bump sucks.

The ChatRoom for Nano Preppers.
They sometimes say, "the place where I am right now was circled on a map for me"... Unfortunately, I kind of suck at orienteering.

As I've mentioned, I only have school on Wednesday afternoons (that'd be evenings for you, Scarab), although I can't say there's no chance of any unexpected appointments I might need to make in the future. So yeah.
So, apparently I'm the sanest madman this side of the international date line. Seems legit.

Is it weird that I think it's silly to make a whole separate chatroom for talking about NaNo?

I mean, it's not like we're going to drag strangers over, and it's... just a Thing to Talk About. We already have a chatroom for Talking About Things, such as NaNo, if the people online feel like talking about NaNo.

As opposed to people experiencing tab explosion from all the overlapping chats...
Lead by example. Get lost in a swamp.

It's not weird for you to think that, no. I guess if that happens then it happens and we'll all just... gradually merge back into the main neatchat? That seems the likely outcome.

I think it'd be nice to have a place where specific questions could be asked, and then found more easily by people showing up later, rather than it getting lost in the noise of the main chat. If it's not used, it's not used but hey, it's there now, so the option is open.

Question: Would this be a collaborative group effort to get up to the 50k words, or would this be a room for planning and talking about our individual challenges?

Just about planning our individual challenges (though if some people WANT to work as a group that's cool too, obviously). Everyone will have their own ideas and as writers, we should be able to bounce off one another and hopefully figure stuff out we couldn't before. All the advice videos I see say that having writing buddies is one of the best ways to ensure Nano success. :D

Eh. I won't be putting anything in the Doodle Doc. My schedule is as of yet non-existent and when it does become extant, is all too variable for anything regular.

I'm with agora.
As much as I appreciate the central area for us to brainstorm ideas, I wouldn't normally use something like that. I'll never write if I do..

All day every day for the Pixel? I can get easily distracted though. If I do pop by I might spend the whole day talking and not-writing.

The Borogove is throwing his hat in the ring. I get the feeling I'm going to regret this...

I've signed up for this year's NaNo. Here's hoping I actually get something done this time...
The voices in my head tell me that we saved the world. However, they also told me that George Clooney's face is on the dollar bill, so... meh. The voices are more fun, anyway.

Will you other NaNos get a chuckle out of this? I hope so. http://chainsawsuit.com/comic/2013/10/30/finishing-touches/
