My name refers to straights or narrows, in reference to waterways. Go me.

If you go back far enough, apparently my name comes from "lotus" in Ancient Egyptian. I'm going with that.

My name by itself doesn't have a meaning, although it's a derivative of John, which is an anglicization of Iohannes, which is the Greek form of Yochanan, which means "God is gracious". Yeah, my name has 4 degrees of separation from it's original meaning.

Well when I gave the meaning for my name it's actually the meaning of the masculine version of the name that mine is a misspelling of.

Also my last name of German origin but has a diaeresis that doesn't make any sense in German that was added by my grandfather on advice from an English professor after the pronunciation was Americanized by my great-grandfather.

Haha my name technically doesn't mean anything. But a Qara by any other name would smell as sweet.

IN OTHER NEWS: New Factually Deficient post! I answered Jack's question about why the States in the US are such different sizes.

It could be worse. My name means "gift from God".

Well, my Middle name means 'Oath of God', which is almost as annoying for me but at least I LIKE my middle name (it's also, incidentally, the "fan given name" of Mrs Brisby in the Rats of NIMH/Secret of NIMH, because it was the first name of her voice actress in the movie, who died tragically young and it seems was just as nervous as the character she played.)

Also the weirdest thing is, so often people call me Rachel? I don't know WHAT it is about those two names that causes peope to mix them up so often, sure there were those two women who were closely connected in the bible, but seriously, how do you make that mix up when most people have never even read that bible story and never hear the name 'Rachel' uttered in my presence?! (Even worse my best friend growing up was named Rachel, so you can imagine what fun that was.)

Eli you can't be twins with everyone no matter how awesome it would be :P (You got Gift? I got Oath...)

Oh and because I'm spamming a bit GO READ QARA'S NEW ENTRY ABOUT US STATES, guys.

Well, one of my names (the secret ones that even people who know me in real life don't know because of my nickname) could be read Son of (an) archer, and I AM a bit of a dead eye, so I guess that works out pretty well, huh?

My name doesn't really mean anything but I have a nickname which can be transliterated and back-translated to mean "expert", and I am totally down with being called that. :gurt:

Speaking of being an expert, this week I answered Genndy's question about why grapefruits are more bitter than lemons.

Notch was trying to add pigs to the game and accidentally got some TNT code mixed in. I'm not making that up.

'sides, Game Theory already did it.
