Possible Overseer Project RPG

Postby Sicon112 on Mon Apr 22, 2013 9:36 pm

So, I'm not entirely sure it is going to happen, but I thought I should let people know so that they can vote on the idea. After the site went back up today, database errors caused our old session and items to be lost. Of course, we have the spreadsheet still, so we can restart at will, but people were asking me about the possibility of utilizing the game for an RPG.

If that is what people want, I can certainly to my best to create one, so here it is, up for a vote. Do you want me to recreate our Overseer session and just play the game, or would you like to add to the whole thing and start an RPG? Mimsy has even suggested simply going off on our own to do a completely unconnected Homestuck RPG, but I'm not entirely convinced this site needs another full fledged RPG.

Another point that is up for debate is whether this would warrant the creation of entirely new characters, or if we should use the stylized versions of ourselves that mark our characters on this site and during the ARG. Honestly, this would probably be less commitment, and less serious than most other RPGs on the site, and mostly for fun and laughs while we enjoy playing Overseer. Just something to do to enhance the experience of the game. Therefore, I think a lot of the issues with playing essentially ourselves would not appear, and we could just generally amuse ourselves.

Thoughts?

Eh, I kinda like the sound of that. Probably won't contribute too much myself, being a major slacker and all, but acting out our characters would definitely make for some good material. ^^
So, apparently I'm the sanest madman this side of the international date line. Seems legit.

I think stylized versions of ourselves, a la TWWF, would be fun for this. ^_^

I'm interested, though it would probably take a bit of effort to get me on a regular posting schedule :p

Voting we simply play as our Forum personas. Us as we are in the Coffee Room/Other Treads requiring our unique quirks.

Imagine for a second Coffee Shop Owner being cast into Sburb Wielding two sticks and then finding out he can put suns on them and then make them Green. Whatever we decide I really want to do it quickly because I have a shit ton of grinding to do.

Ok that sounds awesome.

And do far I'm liking this concept. Playing as our Coffee Shop/Forum selves on a big adventure or something.

I don't really mind either way, but, like Sicon mentioned, I think it might just be better to go all out and make our own Homestuck RP. We'd have a lot more freedom to do as we liked, that way, like creating our own unique and absurd alchemy combinations a la the Snoop Dog Sno Cone Machete, or defining our own Strife Speccibi. Secondly, it would be easier to just do that instead of the constant grinding that we'd need to do to keep ourselves alongside where we are IRP. Long story short, I think it'd just be plain easier, not to mention more fun.

... This is a stupid question, but what's Overseer? .-.
If you can make it better, don't make it sentient.

It's a Homestuck based online game that a few of us have been playing.

I can't help but feel the same as Mimsy re: this though, it'd be less tricky if we just made a Homestuck RP, and easier for people to get involved.

I prefer Mimsy's idea, a full fledged out RP would be better. And awesome! :gurt:

However, I recently thought of an alternative as well. By using the MS Paint Fan Adventures site, we could all co-author our RPG as an adventure there. Each Metaguard would work on his/her character's section, with occasional overlap with others during communication. Artwork would be done by each person as well, in order to showcase a numerous styles of artwork of varying horribility.

The other ideas will presumably be more fun, though.

I'm picturing Sicon weaponizing his art, am I not?

Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff is a freaking MASTERPIECE compared to Sicon's and my "art," dude. Let's just leave it at that.

But it IS a masterpiece compared to anything already :P

Well, and I thought I drew bad. Now the only way to keep my dishonor is by challenging Sicon to a duel of art. The loser wins.

One of the project DEVELOPERS has made an intriguing offer here on the Overseer forums. I noted my own interest in it. Thought I would drop it here, since it seems like a great opportunity.

Yes, but since this is on the official site, there's going to be interest from everyone, not just our session. And I'm guessing that it would be rather easy to get lost in that game for those of us who can't get on the Overseer forums as often as others.
