Short Bio: Aiden Byrne, born to a middle class Irish family with a history of military service, initially aspired to nothing more than a soldier in the British military. Thanks to his surprising natural talent with a rifle, he made it through basic training and would have had a shot at a high position in the military were it not for an incident where, during a night on the town, he ended up in a fight with a fellow recruit, during which his opponent was dealt an instantly lethal shot in the head by Aiden's Rhongomyniad, and killed. He claimed self-defense, testifying that the man had come at him with a knife, which was later found on the scene, but without any fingerprints or other incriminating evidence on it, and, when Aiden had disarmed him, had attacked repeatedly with his bare hands and attempted to tear out the Irishman's throat in a feral state, forcing Aiden to kill him. Aiden was let go due to lack of evidence against him, but was discharged from the military after this.
Down on his luck, Aiden ended up forgetting about this incident as best he could in the face of the more pressing issue of how he was going to put food on his plate, and ended up becoming a private contractor for a less-than-reputable crowd, resolving incidents people didn't want to take to the law. Hunting down dangerous criminals under the pay of slightly less dangerous criminals wasn't exactly the best job in the world, but it was enough.
During one such mission, Aiden was sent to investigate a call from help on private channels issued from the munitions warehouse of a radical Irish anarchist group, which had gone dark shortly afterward. Slipping into the warehouse and expecting to find looters, perhaps from a rival faction of some sort, Aiden was shocked and horrified to find the population of the warehouse massacred, their body parts strewn throughout the building, most of the flesh torn from their bones, with no sign of what had caused this slaughter. Slowly working his way through the building, he headed up to a small tower on the edge of the warehouse, hoping to access the surveillance records and discover what had happened. As he set down his rifle to attempt this, however, a sudden crash from behind him interrupted him, and he only barely managed to dodge a massive, black creature that broke in through the locked door and attempted to gut him. Reacting on instinct, he drew his revolver and shot it in the gut, but even his trademark pistol's ridiculous firepower wasn't enough to mortally wound the thing.
Still, the beast fled, in pain, leaping from the window of the tower and retreating across the rooftops below. Aiden, recovering quickly, hastily gathered up his rifle and fired at the creature from long range. He scored a second hit, but the beast then leaped over the edge of a nearby ravine and attempted to escape. Aiden quickly went after it, and tracked its bloodied footsteps for several miles until he finally came upon its body, having bled out in the shallows of a river. He was not the only one after the creature, however, for a man claiming to be a member of "The Order" greeted him and congratulated him on his kill. The next thing Aiden knew, he was working for an organization even more incredible and shadowy that his old employers. In exchange for having all traces of his existence eliminated and his identity concealed from his many enemies, and for protection from those who didn't want the existence of the "Freaks" known, Aiden agreed to work for the Order as a sniper and assassin.
