No. I will post the campaign intro sometime today, along with an entry form (which is NOT going to need any mechanical elements. Purely fluff here). Then send the entries to me. After I pick the 4-maybe-5 players, then the sheets will be worked on.

Wait. So soon? You're not even set on a date to start yet are you? What if you choose someone, but the decided schedule cannot be followed by the chosen person?

I could totally reuse my Doppelganger ^_^
.... who is incidentally named Alice.
If you can make it better, don't make it sentient.

What's with the surge of the Alice name?

Considering how the game's going to be run through forum posts, and thus does not require any specific meeting times, I fail to see how this is a relevant problem......

Krika wrote:Yah, one of the points about 4th edition is that the combat-based class design is very much reminiscent of MMOs, although whether that's a good thing or bad thing is debatable.

Right, fast intro to the 4e Cosmology (to answer your question). The planes are the Prime Material (or Natural World, I call it Prime Material), the Shadowfell (a dark, almost underworld-esque reflection of the Prime), the Feywild (a reflection of the Prime like the Feywild, but in the opposite direction. It's flowing with life, magic, and that sort of thing), the Astral Sea (home of the gods), and the Elemental Chaos (which is basically a seething pool of raw elemental energies).

The Elemental source draws their abilities from some sort of connection to the Elemental Chaos, while the Primal power source draws their strength from Mother Nature, essentially.

...so Elemental uses distilled elemental energy, while Primal uses naturally occurring elemental energy?

Errr...not really. Primal isn't "elemental spirits". You're calling upon the spirits of the natural world (who may in themselves be spirits of stone, water, fire, wood, etc), but not the elements. However, not all spirits are elementally aligned. A druid may call upon a spirit of earth to create a rocky terrain, whereas a Barbarian might draw strength from a spirit of fury (which is non-elementally aligned) in order to give himself more strength.

Elemental, on the other hand, is the classical fire/water/earth/air wielder that I believe you are thinking of.

...actually, what I was thinking of didn't involve spirits at all, and was more in line with Primal's description. (Four elements is just so limiting, y'know? Why not lightning? Or metal and wood?)

....The thing about some of the later power sources is that there's overlap, and there's powers that thematically fit them, but don't have anything to do with them due to coming out before they made that power source a thing, and so on and so forth. I don't think it's necessarily important that you get the exact difference between them, because flavor is mutable, and if you want to re-flavor your druid so that it's drawing upon the elements directly, instead of spirits of nature, that's a perfectly valid thing to do.

And on that note, campaign introduction and sheet!

The Chaos Scar is a long, wide valley carved long, long ago by the fall of a massive meteor. Tales say that as the giant rock passed overhead, milk curdled, livestock fell over dead, and ill fortune befell all. The meteor crashed into the earth with deafening force, and red radiance lit the sky for a week. Then it vanished. The meteor had carved its massive gash in a dark and wild place on the edge of civilization. Where once had stood a wild forest and swamp between a line of small foothills near the western mountains was this new valley—the Chaos Scar.

Many miles long and several hundred feet deep, the Chaos Scar is a testament to the vast power of the meteor’s impact. As it carved its path through the earth, shards and fragments of the meteor tore away until only its heart remained, embedded in an escarpment at the far end of the new valley. Tales say that it was no mere rock, but an alien creature from beyond time and space -- what men call the Far Realm.

The tales must have some truth, for over the centuries, creatures of evil spirit have been drawn to the meteor's heart as if to a beacon. Some say it's dark sentience spurs competition among them so that they fight with one another. The weak are killed or pushed to the edges of the meteor’s influence, while the strong and cruel rise to the top of the pecking order. Vile, ravening hordes have risen again and again, centered around the evil of the Chaos Scar. Hundreds of years ago, one fool in the lands to the east of the Chaos Scar, who called himself a king, thought that he could contain it's evil by building a long wall across the western end of the valley, the ruins of which still bear his title, as the King's Wall. He is long dead, slain on his wall, futilely trying to hold back one of those hordes. It flooded into his kingdom, smashing it to pieces before burning itself out in a frenzy of blood and fire.

Quiet reigned for some time after in the Chaos Scar, though the lords of the land around it were small and petty, bickering with each other, absorbed in their individual quests for power. Now the evil rises again. Hushed tales of a group known as the Brotherhood of the Scar are told in taverns. Restwell Keep, lying near the King's Wall, was until recently the haven of a band of adventurers who were little more than bandits. It was conquered just a few years ago by Lord Peridin Drysdale, a paladin of Erathis, the goddess of civilization and order. Word says that he means to use it as a shield against the evil of the Scar and eventually as a base from which to send forth forces to defeat the evil that dwells there, once and for all. Slightly closer to the Scar lies the town of Bedlam, a haven for the many dubious individuals who make their lives in and around the Scar. Ruled by a lich known as His Honor Mayor Avellin, it has stood since before the creation of the Scar, surviving against the evil that radiates out from the Scar. Many adventurers have entered the Chaos Scar. Few have returned. Those that do weave dark stories of monsters working in concert as never before. Others tell of monstrous creatures working against one another. Welcome to the Chaos Scar. Adventure awaits you there.

Character Application - Post in the thread, or PM to me, whatever you want.
Name: Self-Explanatory
Race: Also Self-Explanatory. There is a significant diversity of race within the scar, so generally speaking whatever you pick will work.
Abilities: This is kinda your class, except that you don't necessarily have to pick a specific class. If you aren't sure, you can describe what you want your character to be able to do, and then match it up to a class later.
Background: What brings you to the Scar? Are you a resident of the Scar, having lived there your entire life? A fresh adventurer, looking for adventure? Perhaps a researcher, come to investigate the magical anomolies that abound in the Scar, or a emmisary of your church, attempting to spread the word of your god? Whatever you pick, you all recieve a letter informing you of a meeting that you have with His Honor Mayor Avellin, at a specific date.
Appearance/Personality: What does your character look like? How do they act?
Motivations: What is your character trying to accomplish? What drives them?
Other: Anything else that may be relevent.

If you have any questions, or want to enquire about more information to help flesh out your character, ask me. I'm generally in the chat, so give me a yell in there (private message, though, so we don't clutter up the main chat).

Name: Sallazar the Wizard
Age: About 45.
Abilities: Human Wizard
Background: A fresh adventurer. He has lived in the world of Amarillia, and often goes on adventures. He trained with some of the greatest wizards of the day, and as a result is a very powerful wizard. He has fought in many wars and gone on many adventures, the most famous when he went to Arabia with Aladdin, Ali Baba and Sinbad the Sailor and many other adventurers in order to find Atlantis for once and for all.
Appearance: Very long, wizard-ish, black beard, black hair, wizard hat, robes, magic glove on right hand used for spell casting, quarterstaff in left hand, backpack on back, wooden shield attached to left arm, belt with leather pouch full of gold pieces.
Personality: Friendly, wise, very eagle eyed, perceptive, a powerful wizard. Likes to read Don Quixote, The Arabian Nights and The Bible, which are all kept in a special space in his backpack.
Motivations: To destroy the evils.
Other: He is a very adaptable wizard too. As well as that, he is a powerful wizard, having fought in several wars and even once slayed a huge fire dragon by himself, only using a Quarterstaff. Finally, he is an experienced adventurer, and is happy to give advice to younger, more reckless ones.

Name: Koman
Race: Dragonborn
Abilities: Martial/Warlord
Background: Koman has been a resident of the Scar for as long as he can remember. He does not know where he actually came from but it became obvious to the Dragonborn at a young age that he was not a natural resident as he was raised by a human family in the main town Bedlam. His adoptive parents can only speculate as to why his parents left him as an egg outside their door with and begging them to take care of the egg. Koman has his own theory that it has something to do with the Scar, feeling compelled to travel there all his life. However his parents made sure that he has had plenty of training before he attempted such a quest. Just the other day Koman received a letter from the mayor requesting his presence.
Appearance/Personality: Koman is a 6ft Draconic humanoid with red scales. He has some angst over his abandonment by his real parents and has an extreme curiosity about their fates and the rest of the world at large which he hasn't had much chance to experience. He does not mince words and is brutally honest.
Motivations: Curiosity, angst and glory
Other: Has some experience with the creatures around Bedlam having helped kill some of those who have gotten into town. He has no qualms with fight dirty having been trained by several people of questionable honor and moral judgement

Name: Lezard Valeth
Race: Human.
Abilities: Mage, hybrid research with knowledge of both some nuking skill and some utility. A slight edge towards the Dark Arts.
Background: Magical research for a homunculus project. Lezard has plans to attain immortality but has no intention of devolving into a Lich. He has a theory that instead of sealing his soul into a Phylactery he could transfer it into an immortal body, and believes that the Scar holds magical secrets that could lead to filling the current holes in his theory.
Appearance/Personality:
Image
Cold and calculating. He is pragmatic, but does enjoy some gambiting on occasion. He's also very confident on his skills.
Motivations: He fell in love with an immortal. In order to be by her side he now seeks immortality himself... Or a way to make her mortal like himself.
Other: If farmiliar is allowed, a Crow or Raven.

Character Application
Name: Roberta du Lys
Race: Halfling Rogue
Abilities: Thief. She has an almost supernatural ability for not being noticed when she doesn't want to be, despite all odds (see appearance). She's good at reading and manipulating people, when she can be bothered to. She also lies frequently and convincingly; she often instinctively offers a lie rather than the truth for no particular benefit to herself other than amusement.
Background: Roberta's a bit of a drifter. She generally (like Dirk Gently) just follows someone who catches her interest until something notable happens. She got to the Scar by following [one of the other adventurers] unseen, just for the heck of it-- and then she got that letter.
Appearance/Personality: Her hair is generally dyed a bright, unnatural colour-- right now, it's violet-- though if someone checked her roots, they'd see that her natural haircolour is black. Her eyes can appear anything between deep green and a dull grey, depending on the lighting. She tends to dress flamboyantly, in bright colours (which makes it all the odder that she manages to go unnoticed). She doesn't like being predictable; she often puts on a Cloudcuckoolander-like attitude, peppered with rapid mood changes.
Motivations: Bobbie just goes along with everything for the ride, to satisfy her own curiosity. If she's not entertained by what's going on, she'll just wander off until she finds something more interesting. She's coming along on this because she has a feeling that whatever happens, she's not likely to get bored.
Other: She's Brilliant, But Lazy, and tries to take the path of least resistance, rather than actually using-- and admitting to-- what she knows, unless she's got a good reason to make the effort.

...wait why did I just do this, again? what am I thinking?

Character Application

Name: Nanashi (lit. "Nameless" in Japanese. He calls himself this because he has forgotten his true name)

Race: As of yet undecided. I do not have enough up to date information to make this decision.

Abilities: Battlemind class

Background: Nanashi woke near the edge of the Scar roughly a month ago, his only possessions two bloodstained weapons; a one-handed straight sword and a katana. He had no memory of who he was or how he got there. He showed signs of many heavy injuries, and there was a trail of dried blood leading back into the darkness of the Scar, which he assumed was his own. Even though he could not recall what exactly the Scar was, he understood its dangerous nature at a glance, and so, still afflicted by his wounds, he set off in the opposite direction. Ever since he has drifted around the edges of the Scar, knowing that he was not yet powerful enough to venture in, and yet unable to pull himself away from the mystery of his past. The only thing that remains familiar to him is the fell of his blades, with which he trains himself, hoping to become powerful enough to enter the Scar once more, and regain what he has lost.

Appearance/Personality:

Image

Nanashi is normally a quiet person. With all that he has forgotten, many things are unfamiliar to him, so he acts as an observer, slowly but steadily working to once again reach the knowledge he lost. However, if he finds it necessary to step up and speak, he has no qualms about doing so, and can be quite charismatic. He suspects perhaps that he was a leader before his loss of memory. Most of the time, though, he is an unassuming face amidst the crowd of much more well known adventurers, and seems to possess no "presence" at all.

Motivations: Nanashi wanders aimlessly through the surrounding land, seeming to an outside observer to oddly lack motivation whatsoever. However, deep within him, he holds a deep desire to regain the memories that the Scar took from him, though he does not speak of it.

Other: Due to his backstory, he probably should begin with a one-handed straight sword and a katana, as well as perhaps some light armor. (As seen in the picture)

I just remembered this. It's a brazilian RP site, which has some cool options, like 'Silence' and others. I never really used it, but it has been in my faves for some time. It's in Portuguese, but Pixel and me could help you with it, even if we don't get picked.

Also, I had an idea so more than 4 or 5 people can play, interested?
Dolphins are some of the smartest animals, yes, but by human standards… Let's say you should praise the god that forces them to stay handless and underwater.

Name: Nesza
Race: Elf
Abilities: Bard, songs that confuse enemies
Background: A young elf traveling the world with his companion, Nessa. The pair, having exhausted the human realms of the simple and harmless (mostly) pleasures, decided to journey to the Chaos Scar simply because of the word 'Chaos'. With the sheer recklessness characteristic of the pair, he ventures forth with nothing more than a songblade, his youth and Nessa by his side.
Appearance/Personality: Long, blonde hair. Slim, about 1.8 metres tall. Wears minimal leather armour and carries about a songblade. The songblade looks like a regular longsword, but with several holes in the core of the blade. Reckless, passionate, loud and brash.
Motivations: Nessa. And enjoyment.
Other: Uses a simple lute when playing for the crowds.
If you can make it better, don't make it sentient.
