Yeah, would this be an event, a series of interconnected quests, something else?

EDIT: Right, NINJA'd.

A series of connected quests, in the form of a regular turn(s).

I think I'd enjoy this. (Jenny might not, but her opinion doesn't count for the moment.)

I don't know... If everyone else do it I guess I could do it too, but I'll have to think about it to decide whether I personally would like or not to do it.

I, uh, am really confused by this idea.

So, the whole Castle effectively turns into a battleschool and everyone gets amnesia?

This sounds complicated.

Got to admit to not really liking the idea of it being in the main cannon and stuff. It feels like we would be leaving the main storyline for a few months just to do some random thing before being dropped back into the plot. I personally don't feel like I would get any real enjoyment out of it.

Yeah, I do feel like it'd be a big side trip that doesn't actually go anywhere or accomplish anything in particular (well, I can think of one or two things it could accomplish, character development-wise, but still).

Okay so a major point of confusion for me is wondering why Eli is being so insistent about getting our permission to change things up, when things have been changed up plenty of times before without us having any idea about it. But then reading in the chatlogs last night I found this:

Qara-Xuan wrote:Basically we are saying: "We want to do a thing that the Castle does anyway, but it involves giving your characters temporary amnesia, so we're asking for your go-ahead to mess with them in that way, while providing a small snippet of context"

since normally nobody can mess with the mental state of someone else's character without permission

basically the only aspect that people should be being concerned about is the "do you mind us giving your characters a temporary mindwipe?"

To which I say go ahead.

All right. I'm awful at explanations, but there are several questions that need answering, and several descriptions that need to be filled in. So, here we go:

Filler arcs, by my definition, are a deviation from the main plotline in order to satisfy a fluffy subplot or to satisfy an author's whim. This has the ability to happen, but that is specifically up to the writer. Floating Castle is an open-world, mission-based role play game. This means that while I, as a GM, can give you scenarios or settings, the characterization, motivation, and the greater part of your character's story line is up to you.

You are only limited by your imagination and willingness to cooperate. In this case, instead of trying to cram this idea into a single quest, I am trying to expand it to better suit the entire game for a few rounds (the number of rounds/style would be dependent on participation).

Now, specifically, FC would not be changing in setting. Your character would be moved to a floor (I think the number we had set was twenty-five). This floor would be composed of barracks, exercise fields, battlegrounds and a canteen. The tech and overall feel of the game would not change.

Your character's memories would only be temporarily gone (they would be able to get them back easily). The trick here is that it might not be wise to show that you remember too early, you may not know who to trust.

Any combat would be non-lethal, and non-combatant characters would have roles.

The goal would be to either defeat the battlemaster (Shard, probably, or maybe a Guardian), or defeat every other combatant player. Again, non-lethal combat that MUST follow the rules of PvP that are here.

Alternatively, the player can actively resist (though I will freely admit to having NO clue what would happen).

So, yeah. This will ONLY happen if every active player agrees to it. Otherwise, I'll probably try to do another thing.

I'm in. But I would like to add in here my suggestion that I made in the chat that those who want to go to this floor go while the rest of the active cast deals with some of the best of the human fighting force disappearing

I... Personally don't see me taking a part in this, unless otherwise I were to be ruining everyone who wants to be a part of it's fun. It throws away all characterization I have for Morionem so far, I don't think it works with the characterization I plan to take and I don't think it goes well with his personality before joining the castle. He'd be the first one to die, and maybe he'd refuse to fight? Though I might be confusing this with Battle Royale, since I don't know what Ender's Game deal is. I also don't even know what Battle Royale's deal is besides forcing people to kill each other :|

No deaths, Vic, unless someone specifically requests one.

Ok. But I still don't see it working well with Morionem. Or maybe I just haven't understood it yet? I see it going as: "Fight each other." "What? No!" "Fight!" "No!" "*kills*".

In Ender's Game, students at a battle school play games with each other. The games are non-lethal, and are about strategy and turning teams of children into armies.

The basic mechanic of the game they play consists of immobilizing everyone on the other army, sort of SIMULATING killing them all without actually killing anyone. Then both armies learn from the experience and take that knowledge into their next match.

It's unlikely that we'll actually be doing Ender's Game because that's very much sci-fi and involves levels of technology very different to what we have in the Castle, so I'm not going to speculate on the actual mechanics of the setup. But it certainly sounds like death won't really be a part of it.

Personally, I'm not at all familiar with Battle Royale. :P

Well, Battle Royale basically comes down to:
- People fight each other in an enclosed space.
- All participants have a bomb attached to them which will explode if they attempt to escape or a set time passes without any of the participants dying.
- Only one participant wins, by surviving the whole ordeal.

That's more or less how I remember it, pretty sure the Hunger Games were compared several times to Battle Royale.

Well, other than dying Morionem would be nearly killed then try to join a group to attack the… The floor's Guardian together to see if it dies. Which does raise my interest in doing this but that still would mean scrapping the characterization I have so far, strapping a new one and then in the end his memory is back and now I have to figure out how he deals with it… Doesn't sound as fun to me…

Maybe threat this as an event, where some characters disappear and are thrown in a floor, memory wiped, being told to fight (or… Die?). The characters in that floor wonder where they are, if what anything the Guardian says is true, who are these other people, what is this power I have with me now (their memories were wiped, so they wouldn't remember rewards), discover who they can and can't trust, etc. whether that happens in arena-like matches or leaving the characters free but trapped in an island, for example. Meanwhile, as Shane suggested, other characters try to deal with where these characters are and consequences of their disappearance. :S but I'm still not very find of the idea @-@

I'm personally not feeling this, but by all means do it if you guys want to. However, I'd rather not be a part of it.

Threading it as an event might be for the best. That way, those who aren't interested don't have to scroll through it to reach the main stuff of the story, while those of us who are interested get a place to play around with having amnesiac characters.

Right now, i am debating on two options.

The event thread has been suggested to me by multiple people (as well as an AU, which is different but whatever), and Shane's idea.

That's the same thing, essentially, just canon and active rather than the static nature i ascribe to event threads.

I'm... really not sure how I feel about this whole idea? I think I'm with Vic, I'm not crazy about it, tbh. I kinda like the idea, but I'm not sure that we need (well, to fair, it's more like I'm not sure whether I want) ANOTHER massive arc like this, I get that this isn't technically filler, we'd still be advancing through *A* floor, but it still feels like throwing a lot of attention on one thing... huge, castle-spanning events kind of tend to frustrate me more than entertain me -by halfway through the civil war I just wanted it to be OVER, but I get that's probably just my feelings, not everyone's.

I'm having a hard enough time entering/submitting in time as it is, and we just keep doing stuff that isn't solving the mystery of the castle. or maybe this is that, I dunno, either way I'm not particularly keen.

I mean, do it if you guys want, but I dunno if I'd be involved here and that's kind of frustrating :/
