I won't mention that the original draft had a death in it then. >_>
Who gives a damn about whether it aligns perfectly within the set limits of the trope? It's a story, not a math problem. I'm not a fan of following tropes or narrative cliches in general. I think it makes the story less impacting, and promotes tired cliches rather than exploring new ways of storytelling. So while you may have had every confidence in mine and Qara's characters and writing abilities, the fact that you predicted and feel confident enough in your predictions to mention it, makes me disappointed with how the story wrote itself.
Me being able to predict what was coming in NO way reflects on how good the story was or makes 'how it wrote itself' BAD. It was very,
very good. Please don't assume it was less than that just because
I'm being nit picky about trope definitions (I think that's what it mostly comes down to here and you guys all know me well enough by know to know I'm picky about that particular writing convention, Eli you are not, as you have told me, strictly a troper so you don't draw from the same reference pool as I do anyway, that doesn't mean either of us is WRONG). I LIKED that story (which I said in my previous comment.)
All I did was point out that I didn't think it was a wham moment by trope definitions, I'm sorry if me mentioning that was in some way makes you feel like it was a negative reflection on you because it was not intended as such. The fact that I could predict it was going to happen makes it, as others have already pointed out, a trope; a device, NOT a cliché. Your writing was fine.
Please don't get snappy with me, assuming you are, because I didn't encourage that reaction on purpose.

That... kind of really does not begin to cover "anticipating what happened in this quest." Ben and Nova being badass and Nova being the one to finish him off =/= Ben being beaten to a pulp and Nova going totally psycho and tearing Kavros to bits.
I mean, if you want to insist you saw it coming, go ahead, no one's stopping you. But no one will think less of you for being surprised by it-- hell, I was surprised by what went down. It whammed me.
I've been writing with Eli previously so I kinda knew Nova going a bit psycho was a possibility likely to happen when she faced Kravos again, though I admit the extremity of the exact way it went down was a surprise. That's not the reason it wasn't a wham for me, though, which I am glad for, as FC kinda has me a bit of a nervous wreck lately so I'm trying to distance myself a bit anyway. I don't think I could TAKE another wham at this point. (So far as writers go I clearly lack backbone at the mo.)
Why would I think you'd think less of me for not being able to predict something? I'm not able to predict things all the time in FC, and I only sort of predicted this part because Eli had been talking to me a little bit about Nova off screen. I just kinda got that bit. It still tore my guts out and made me very sad, if that helps.
