The Sounds of a Flying Castle

Postby Scarab on Mon May 13, 2013 2:43 pm

So here it is, a much overdue collection of music for the Floating Castle. Think of this as like being the Songs to Play an ARG to Thread, only for Floating Castle :D

If you come up with a Motif for your character, a theme song, or just a bit of music you’ve used that you think represents the series or a particular scene, please list it here and I’ll add it to the main post.Non Royalty Free Music below will be indicated by red text. Music composed by the players themselves is in blue, so please let me know from the get go if your song is copyrighted or not so I don't, you know, use it accidentally.

NB: Regular songs are totally fine to be on this list, however I’d also really appreciate it if you can find some themes that are ROYALTY FREE, because then I’d actually be able to USE it for your characters scenes in the audio recordings, which I can’t do if the music is copyrighted. There are loads of places you can find Royalty Free music, including machinimasound.com and incompetech.com, to name but two.

Character Motif Songs.

Heroes Unlimited

The Lore Knights

Phantom Thieves Anonymous

Severed Claw

Storm and Drive

Unaligned Characters

Villains/Monsters/Assorted Others

Other Music. Nuthin’ here yet.

Music that has been used in the audio productions so far:

No Man’s land (Quest 004).

They sometimes say, "the place where I am right now was circled on a map for me"... Unfortunately, I kind of suck at orienteering.

Because I have the madness, but not the madskills (i.e., those involved in creating musical notation and an instrumental-only audio file), this is me singing the song which is Ben's theme. The music is presumably royalty free, on account of it being a poem my mother wrote in high school put to a tune by some of her classmates, then put to a slightly altered tune by me.

Since that's totally lame and lyric-full, this is sort-of also Ben music, played terribly by me on the piano with no regard for timing and dynamics on account of the fact that I haven't really used the piano in several years and am rusty in my skills. This song was written by me, so I'm pretty sure it's royalty free :P. (And for the curious, though I can't imagine why you would be, this is the version of that song as a lyric-full song sung a cappella.)
Lead by example. Get lost in a swamp.

AS DICTATED TO INSTANTIATION 17-01-18-01.

Are we allowed to use this for suggestions? I don't have any concrete ideas on songs for Jenny, but I do have some royalty-free music kicking around on my hard drive; I could throw them out there and someone else could maybe use them.

Worst case scenario: We all get to hear awesome music. ;)

Yep! Both perfectly acceptable, awesome, and actually really handy for us when we're doing the audio recordings :D If you can send them our way, that'd be great.

Anything goes here :D

Most of the Creative Commons stuff I listen to is a lot more electronica than what Scarab's used, but I think it might have a place in FC anyway.

Instrumental #4 - Reasoner: Kinda slow, contemplative, but lighthearted. Good for ending something. (And no, I don't know where the other three Instrumentals went. :P )

Fu Midaji - Reasoner: I have no idea what this sound would be useful for, but it's a neat song.

Betrayal of Fear - Goukisan: It's busier than what most soundtracks will allow, but it's also very combative and emphatic. I really want to find somewhere to use this.

March of a Prideless Victory 2 - Goukisan: Uh... yeah, I'll let the title speak for this one.

The Last Stand - Evil-Dog: Okay, this one is definitely more rock-ish than would probably be period-appropriate, but I felt like throwing it out there anyway. It's pretty much Adrenaline Rush: The Movie: The Song.

I want, for some reasons, to write a music for the cows in the castle, parodying "If I were a boy" by Beyonce, calling it "If I were a bull". What o you guys think? Should I make it?

It just ocurred to me that, if Qara do sing this song, she could pretend she's Ben having a nightcow... Okay, nightmare :P
Dolphins are some of the smartest animals, yes, but by human standards… Let's say you should praise the god that forces them to stay handless and underwater.
