You know, it's actually worrying how much of our general strategies for ANYTHING boil down to "let's not tell them the whole story or they'll probably think we're completely cuckoo." Is that just a Metaguard thing, or what?

Well, the first time it was more due to incompetence, as the characters found themselves in a weird situation, and had good reasons to trust us (and also there were the existential and ethical refic problems, but whatever). This time, we're dealing with a civilian ( ) who has no reason to believe our single word.

Well... as of now, I think we have no way of talking to Becky without making her more freaked out, if we were to tell her the truth we need to think of a way that makes it believable and, perhaps, through a medium that prevents New Light from finding out that she knows what their true intentions are (and therefore putting her in even more danger).

It would be useful to have her as some sort of cover agent, but that would be too dangerous for her, right?

Well, anyway, we're still waiting for her to get back to us in some way after Dryu's last tweet about her trying to find the truth, so in the end she might already be in danger .-.

From my perspective:

Giving ANYONE anything less than 100% of the information available feels dishonest and I'm not comfortable with it. That's a huge problem I had with behavior in TWWF and, if people keep acting that way for this ARG, I'm not going to participate in most of the ARG. That's not a threat or a demand, I'm just stating that so people know.

It's uncomfortable to me that we're having this discussion in a thread that Matrx can't read.

I don't want to force other people to play the game the way I feel it should be played, but I definitely am not comfortable with the way the game is being played.

But I'm not following the game closely at all, so feel free to continue on your current course, and I'll continue to not pay much attention.

There is sometimes, on occasions, very specific occasions, mind you, a very good reason for people not to be one entirely truthful with someone. Giving someone one hundred percent of the information in this particular scenario will a) make her think we're complete lunatics and b) will probably get her killed. The real world doesn't always allow for total honesty. You're basically slamming people for dishonesty in a situation where dishonesty might well be the ONLY OPTION which doesn't result in a death.

I think that comment answers Jack's question, too: no, I don't think we should tell her exactly what's happening, but making it clear to her she may be in danger? That we should maybe try and do.

Possibly. The bells refer to a funeral, of course. He seems to be referring to it-and the title of the video makes it look like it's a moment of silence for Brent. The skies represent Heaven, too.

This seems like she's answering a question. Did someone ask her a question? What's the context here?

Also, the timeline says that the voice from the future was confirmed to be Adell. Where did that confirmation come from?

Good question, that's why I said I'd have to think about things before I gave her anything. We really need to be careful with what we tell her about all this.

I propose the most open approach, short of just showing her the timeline. Basically, we do a Weirdness Censor on our facts, and we are left with the following official premise:

1. We have someone who left New Light with their some of their experimental tech. He only contacts us on his own terms, but the info is reliable. (That's Matrx, obviously.)
2. One of us knows him personally, that's how we got involved. (He doesn't know him that personally yet, but she doesn't have to know that.)
3. We don't know much yet, except for New Light's general evilness and ambitious weaponizable technology in late stages of development.
4. Everything we discovered after we found Rebecca's blog is pretty much fair game.

The drawback to this particular approach is that it's not exactly lying (we tend to stick to Exact Words, don't we ), but it does come pretty close.

And please let's say right away that we don't actually know anything about her father. We can still help her find out, but she shouldn't get her hopes out. Our only actual help here is knowing the right guy, codebreaking, pixelhunting and being Genre Savvy. After all, Brent and her father might have... just known each other, with no underlying conspiracy.
