Deletion of the chat logs.

Anything goes.

OK, I'm probably slipping away for now. You know where I stand. If you guys do end up turning off the logs, then I won't stop you. I'll just post another chat link on the chat thread in that situation in case anyone wants to get a hold of me and can't use the voice chat. I would really rather stay with you guys in the main one, though, so I hope you don't decide to do that. :(

Why is Sicon going away? Why do you go away if no logs? ;_;

He would only leave if the majority of us decide that no log keeping at all is the best choice.

Hang on-

How about leaving only the historical TWWF ones-like the one where Morgana entered the chat room?

Sophira ran a script recording all the of the chat logs for the duration of the game. These are safe, and will be saved if we all agree to delete the logs.

Well then, I think we should delete the rest of the logs, since they contain some personal information anyway, and possibly embarassing stuff we don't want to hear ( like when I insulted NASA and America by suggesting, thanks to my overactive imagination, the Space Shuttles be used as massive fireworks)

...y'know, if you're talking about personal stuff you don't want to get out, listing examples isn't exactly a good idea. Even if this isn't the first time you've mentioned it in the forums (which is in and of itself not a good thing).

Well, you could always just tell us your opinion, without worrying a whole lot about sides.

Also, a reason to bumb this... In spirit of the TvTropes guidelines, I believe that a lifespan of 3 days is a good time to leave this open for debate, as it is. It went up yesterday, so, up to wednesday in the afternoon.

Currently we have a great deal of support for the weekly deletions, and general opposition to disabling them completely. If we were to close this now, we would start to deliberate on what's the best schedule for the weekly clear.

Edit... Well, I should probably clarify that, I'm not really taking a tally. But most opinions so far seem to agree with a weekly wipe, or dislike but accept it. Regarding the disable, however, most have stood clearly against.

So, if you haven't manifested yet, there's still time to share your opinion. :)

I'm throwing my support behind scheduled deletions. No logs is counter-intuitive to productive conversation, but letting several week-old logs sit there doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Scheduled deletion seems like the best way to handle things.

Well, we did hit 72h of this running. So I think it's safe to call the weekly clears to happen, then.

So, we should settle on a day/time of day, for it.

I'll start throwing out for consideration Wednesday at evening, which would be... uh... nowish?

Of course, same model, 3 days running on it to give time for everyone to think and give their opinion, so... Up to sunday for us to set a schedule for the deletions. So, when do you guys think would be the least inconvenient?

Throwing my own bone here. In the middle of the night, or ungodly early in the morning isn't very likable on my end. So, for me in particular, anytime from noon to midnight is probably fine (on my timezone), of course, college time means I'm not here for it, so I'd execute it either before leaving or after getting back, whichever is closer.

Wednesday afternoon (approx. 4pm EST?) seems fine to me...

Also, re: any other approximate times people throw out, can you please say an hour, even if it's approximate, and your timezone, so that people won't get confused about what time you mean?

(I didn't realize until this post that "Wednesday evening" meant "afternoon" my time  )

I'd actually prefer around 1am my time (EST) on Wednesday. I'm normally not around on wednesday afternoons/nights.

I'd really like some time when I'm reliably around, so that I can be there to prevent issues. As you all know, I'm around at a LOT of times. As to Qara's suggestion of 4PM eastern, perhaps 3:30? I've got to be running around getting ready to leave and about 4 EST, so I might not be able to be present.

Problem: Sicon log reading and deletion of logs.
Solution: Have Sicon to delete the logs.

That would be a remarkably direct solution. I think it would probably solve any issues that I might have, but then I'd have to be made an admin, so... Yeah, probably not happening. It's alright, though.

Sicon isn't the only log reader who will be inconvenienced by the deletions. Relaying it would just mean he would have to account for the others. So, if it ends in a having to settle on a compromise anyway, it doesn't really solve it. I'd just be saying "your problem now". :/

Thursday is also a fine day for me, in this semester in particular I don't even have classes then, so I'll have a larger time frame available. I'm GMT - 3, and I could conceivably be here anytime from noon to midnight.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday are probably sketchy for Qara.

Also save from connection or power issues, if you're in the room you don't get it wiped out, you just won't to be able to load anything you didn't already have from before the "Previous messages deleted" line.

Yes, I'd prefer it not be on Friday or Saturday.
Sunday even if I haven't actually returned yet, I could conceivably already have my computer on and the chat running, so I won't be inconvenienced by it, but... please not Friday or Saturday. :?

I'd have Monday or Tuesday, preferably on or after 4 p.m. (MST). But I won't be terribly inconvenienced other times.

That would be right before I leave for college on monday, or when I get back on tuesday. (Weird schedule)
In this case, tuesday would probably be best on my end so that I'm not rushing out around the time I'd have to clean them.

Well... No one posted further... So, to specify. Tuesday at around 8PM EST? (That's more or less when I get home from college, so, I can remind everyone in chat before leaving for class, and clearing it when I get back. That's about 3 hours or so of warning.)

Well, it is Sunday now... :?
So, yeah, I'm calling it Tuesday 8PM EST. For now I'll be the one doing the cleaning, but if for someone I'm not around or late or anything of the sort, any of the other chat admins can go right ahead and do it again.

Four Pixel Mega Combo. :P Not editing so the post gets bumped.

There's a reason though, I just got a schedule change for my classes and I'll now be midway through one at our current deletion time. There is a way to keep the schedule, any of the chatadmins around carries out the deletion attempt. If no one is there for it, I'll do it once I get back, around 10PM EST, which is more or less the time when I'll get home.

Using the opportunity to address the Undead Log issue. Let's keep the schedule, and attempt to delete them normally. Optimally, it'll work, but if doesn't, then there's not much we can do about it, so let's just try to delete, and if it fails we move on to click the option again next week. This is likely an issue with neatchat itself, and beating our heads against it won't solve the problem.
