I've beaten the game now, and yes, I love Wheatley. A brilliantly written, brilliantly acted character. Genuinely hilarious. I won't say more because spoilers.

I'll just note that Stephen Merchant (who played Wheatley) is fantastic.

He's one of the best characters in Portal 2. And, here's an interesting snippet about GlaDos herself, wonderful woman she is...

Bioshock Infinite came out yesterday, and I'm vibrating in my seat waiting for a Lets Play of it. *vibrates right out the door*
The voices in my head tell me that we saved the world. However, they also told me that George Clooney's face is on the dollar bill, so... meh. The voices are more fun, anyway.

I have, perhaps an oblique problem (not the opposite. Not really). I don't have much of a video game budget (and I'm kinda a cheapskate), but I also don't generally find games that interest me. With many games I will play them through once or twice, and then I won't have much interest in playing them any more.

With games that cost $60 (or thereabouts), it's not actually worth it for that little play (especially if I'm not even sure if I will enjoy it or not. Which is why, despite playing through most of the openings and about a 1/3 of the story, I will never pay for the Dragon Age Origins that I tested out via pirating (I did legitimately buy copies of ME 1 and 2 though, since I played them through all the way, and very much enjoyed them)).

Also, my motivation for games can wear out after some play, leading to never actually having finished some games (I've started Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3, and never finished them. Also End War, though I got another copy of it and will give it another shot, because that was an enjoyable game).

Bastion was a worthwhile game. It was a gift from a friend, but I'd have gladly payed for it (technically I did because I did give him a gift as well, but that's besides the point). Spore was pretty cool as well, up until the Space stage (though that was more of the "oh god what do I do now" than being bad or un-enjoyably). I am a solid fan of Age of Empires 3, and have payed for the game twice over (I've played it through 3 different computers. The original copy came with 2 licenses, to my knowledge. Fortunately, Steam!), and still play it (as you have seen). Skyrim was good as well, although I've played it enough that I've burned out of it.

This issue for me is just finding more of those games, and that I don't want to spend more money than I have to.

So, that was a longer post that I expected.

I've read that a few (I think two... If I remember correctly) schools in Brazil are using the new SimCity to evaluate their students, as they will play it for the whole year (I think). They will evaluate what measures the students take to make the city grow and such.
Dolphins are some of the smartest animals, yes, but by human standards… Let's say you should praise the god that forces them to stay handless and underwater.

I want to write a whole gigantic post gushing about Fire Emblem: Awakening, but I am far too tired. Just play it. If you're at all into strategy games, it will blow you away.

Someone (I think it was Adell) mentioned Alan Wake at some point and I remembered the name... and Alan Wake is currently for sale here, and will be for the next 5 days, for however much (or little) you want to pay for it.

Anyway. I'm downloading it now.

Hey, I'm curious, I know RT played Star Wars The Old Republic at one time, but I was wondering if anyone else played it/was interested in playing it. Mimsy and I decided to get back on (we took an extended break from it some time before TWWF started) recently and it would be fun to have more of the people from here there with us.

For those who don't know, TOR is a Massively Multiplayer Online RPG for, obviously, Star Wars, made by Bioware. It started as being subscription only like WoW and other MMOs, but they ended up having to change it to free to play, so now if you go ahead and buy the game itself, you can play all you want. With a lot of not-so-subtle attempts to get you to subscribe, but still...

Anyhow, as far as I am concerned, the game is totally worth getting. One of their stated goals was to make every single person in the whole game voiced, which they managed to pull off very well. Overall, the quality of the acting is pretty high, though there are some moments of Narm and a couple wince-worthy performances. The other thing is that the amount of story content is ENORMOUS, both for an MMO, and for any game in general. I've heard it said that it is like eight full games in one, and I'm pretty sure that that is the best description possible. Their are eight playable classes, two sith classes, two jedi classes, and one smuggler, trooper, bounty hunter, and imperial agent class. Each one has it's own full length storyline over multiple large planet areas, with even more quests shared between various other classes. On top of all that, there are even more group story missions called flashpoints, and even BIGGER group missions, which are essentially flashpoints up to eleven, to the point that they become full blown war sequences.

Not a perfect game, but Mimsy and I are having fun with it, so I figured I'd invite more people from here to come and join us.

Just checked. They haven't given many comments about coming out with a Mac edition, they just say it is something they want to do eventually. In the meantime, it apparently runs OK on bootcamp. I'm not a Mac guy, so I don't know the details....

Well, I only had to turn the music off once while playing the game, so I guess that's something?

Video game music and I don't tend to get along well. It tends to scare me with its repetition. In the same way that busy signals, fire alarms and the Jeopardy theme song scare me.

See, that's the thing about video game soundtracks- the bad ones get annoying real fast, but the good ones you can listen to for however the hell long you want (provided you've got a fortuitously placed save file). :P That's actually why I enjoy listening to video game music so much.
So, apparently I'm the sanest madman this side of the international date line. Seems legit.

It's less about the quality of the track than it is about the length of the loop, or the presence/absence of repeating elements in the song. Also, it's less about annoyance than it is about fear. It's kind of like if I was afraid of spiders, I might not be able to get past a part of a game where you have to battle a spider. Or maybe I COULD do that, just grit my teeth and bear it, but it wouldn't be fun for me, and most of the time wouldn't be worth it. Luckily, my phobia is something that's not intrinsically part of the game play most of the time, so I can just turn it off and get through parts of the game that bother me.

So, I am enjoying the hell out of Dragon Age 2, mainly because I'm actually getting emotionally invested and emotional feedback from playing this game.
