Happy birthday to DrunkGirlfriend. Also, general birthday topic.
Dolphins are some of the smartest animals, yes, but by human standards… Let's say you should praise the god that forces them to stay handless and underwater.

The birthday often is the most underrated holiday on the face of the universe. Sometimes the astrological signs and other numerology help describe what type of person you would be.

Not that there's, you know, any actual scientific evidence to back that up.
So, apparently I'm the sanest madman this side of the international date line. Seems legit.

Doesn't need to be. It's a coin toss really, the numerology for example shows both the pros and cons of a personality type based on the name, and date of birth. It's not inherently good or evil, just benefits and disadvantages. For example if you were described as a nice, adventurous courageous person. The disadvantages of it would be that you get stepped on, fail to look before you leap and are arrogant in your victories.

Positive and negative equation. Can't get any more scientific than that.

Why are you guys arguing about birthdays? Can't this just a thread about birthdays? Why do we have to go into full scientific discussions about them?

June 7th. You can start planning early.

As ridiculous as it sounds, April 1st. I take it very seriously though, I don't remember where this was quoted "Who shall bring redemption, the jesters."

Ace, I'll tell you one thing I belive personally: That's not true in that the mysticism can foresee peoples behavior. It's the other way around. So long as you belive that the cards are right and they know it to be true that you're shy. Why, yes, of course you'll behave that way. Because the cards, stars, numbers, whatever, told you so! Not that they told you that because it's true.

It's the same on the only type of magic that works on our realm: Chaos Magic. In other worlds, sugestion via Sigils and Meditation. You focus on attaining a desired state of mind by chanelling that intention to an symbol or object. The object is powerless, but so long as your mind belives it to be "forcing" you into that state, you'll behave as so.
In psychology that would be creating triggers for reactions you desire. In a lot of ways, it's plain simple science, just applied with a coat of mystery so people think it's "magical".

I must say I'm with Pixelmage on this one. Effectively the two of us are quite different people, but we could look at the same three card tarot reading and believe them to be equally relevant to us, because it's all to do with reading your subjects behaviour and attitudes, and adapting responses accordingly.

I'm not saying all tarot readers are frauds or liars, many of them probably believe it works (and even if it doesn't work, maybe there's some benefit in setting your thoughts straight, even if via an unscientific method), but as a technique it's no more rooted in science than crystal healing.

Of course now the walls of reality and fiction are merging and I'm starting to feel like that may not be so relevant anymore.
They sometimes say, "the place where I am right now was circled on a map for me"... Unfortunately, I kind of suck at orienteering.
