Watch the Footage

The game of mafia got me thinking about other group games that could work awesomely well in our text-based environment, and Your Word is one of my favourites.

How it works:

• Each person playing is secretly assigned the name of another player, and a word.
• The names will be organized such that everyone creates a closed chain of names.
• Your goal is to get the person you have been assigned to say the word you have been assigned.
• When this happens, you will PM that person "Bang bang your word!" and the person will PM you his/her current person/word assignment
• This now becomes your assignment; the person who sent it to you is now out.
• Repeat until there's one person left standing.

The nice thing about it is it just kind of keeps going in the background over a period of time while other stuff is happening; it doesn't derail the chat, other than a couple of conversations with odd topics, because all the "bang bang" stuff has to take place in PM.

For this first round at least, I will be the GM/organizer-- I'll assign everybody their people and words, and keep track of what's what in case there's a problem.

Sign up in this thread so I'll know who's in and can start drawing up a list of people and words. We'll start once there are enough people for shenanigans to ensue.

Oh, this is somewhat like a combination of (Insert Dollar Amount Here) Pyramid and the college dorm game Assassin.

I'm on too sporadically to play this time, but having played Assassin, it is fun. I wholeheartedly recommend it to folks.

When your target gives you your own name as a target-- meaning you've completed the circle-- post here to gloat about winning!

Yeah um... heads up to the people still in this: You have to actually say words in the chatroom to your fellow players, or it's basically cheating on account of you making it LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE to get you out. Also, if your mark is literally never in the chatroom (or literally never there at the same time as you due to timezones-- specify which), PM me and I'll take them out or rearrange, depending on whether it's a timezone issue or a not-showing-up issue. Otherwise you will still be playing this round when we all have grey hair.
