I dunno, I haven't even layed these games since I was 14, but given this is a Pokémon thread, it seems odd we haven't explored our Pokémon teams yet, sooo here's mine.

THAT IS NO EXCUSE FOR SHODDY TEAM BUILDING! I MEAN HELL, THAT WHOLE LINEUP IS WEAK TO ROCK! THAT'S A SERIOUS ISSUE!

*grins* Ooohoho, here we go.

When I Nuzlocke stuff, I tend to try to hang onto the team for that file in that cartridge, which really means that I can't play that cartridge anymore (so free Y was awesome whooo). And I'm sure all of you know my final team from the LP of X that I did with my friend, but I suppose it bears repeating, since the experience of LPing with them made the bond with them a bit closer. So let me introduce my comrades again!

Sicon the Chesnaught, my starter and firm tank.
Image

Asha the Goodra, faithful and versatile.
Image

Moriarty the (occasionally Mega) Charizard, a bastion of destruction.
ImageImage

Krika the Sableye, my lucky little secret weapon.
Image

Tamar the Hawlucha, a specialist fighter to the core.
Image

And Narra the Tentacruel, steady, firm, and willing to take punishment for the team.
Image

And I cannot in good faith mention them without also touching on those who fell on the path to victory. Qara the Pidgeotto, taken before her time. The unnamed Lapras - I failed you, and the one who entrusted you to me. And Endless, my bright and trusty sword and shield. I hope you all found rest.

Nuzlocke, huh? I've tried it a couple times, but I just don't have the dedication to see it through...

As a Nuzlocker, I have to say that have a well-balanced team is VERY important, because otherwise a single Pokémon could curbstomp your entire party. As it is, my party cannot easily handle the Ralts line, because Fairy/Psychic typing hits ALL of them for super-effective damage. Which would be fine, if that weren't the Champion's ace monster, with a Mega Evolution to boot. (Have I mentioned I love Sableye? Because I do)

You know, I never got around to really getting to the team-building part of XY - I had my travelers, sure, but nothing that screamed "build this."

If you're curious about the travelers, though:

Gourgeist - My Pickup specialist; I wasn't quite expecting this as I usually have to slum around a Normal type for that.
Delphox - My thieving specialist (has its hidden ability).
Floette - You might ask yourself, why would Rick travel around with something not fully evolved? The answer is simple - with its moves and the Eviolite, she can tank and chip at nearly anything, which is great for catching wild 'mons.
Talonflame - Requisite flyer. I really wish there were a better selection of Flying types added to this game; I wanted to switch this one out ages ago.
Dragagle - Surf beast - bonus for also giving me the poison attack needed to handle Fairy types.
Diggersby - HM carrier.

I'm still trying to plan for a great Klefki build; Prankster is too much fun, and a great defensive type to work with. The Choice Sash variant with Switcheroo, Torment, Spikes, and Play Rough would be pretty evil.

Well since everyone else is listing I'll list my Pokemon Zeta team since that was the last pokemon game I played (its been about a month since I picked it up)

Jupiter (Raichu)-long standing team member of high repute
Orcrist (Mawile)-recently captured, being trained up as a replacement tank
Shadow (Absol)- Been around for a while, she's made a lot of fights a total cinch
Dragonair- Only one with no nickname, got her from the game corner so she's also being leveled right now
Ziz (Pidgeot)- Second-oldest team member, been around since she was a lowly pidgey
Surtur (Magmotar)- Starter. So highly leveled that he can do a fair amount of damage to pokemon strong against fire

Oh, screw Nuzlocke, so a couple are weak to Rock, a Pokémon can learn skills besides their set elemental attributes: it's possible to teach several of the Pokémon in my team Ground (Ninjask, Magcargo), and Water (Dewgong, Glaceon and Cloyster) moves, BOTH of which are very effective against rock. I can't loss-proof a team against EVERYTHING so why try? There's... what, eighteen twenty different types? That's what TM' and Items are for. :P

And they laughed - LAUGHED! - when I said that Gen III was awesome and underrated. Like we'd ever see Hoenn again.

It's worth noting that many of my favorite NPCs are in R/S/E. If they somehow fit in a Brock and a Cynthia cameo in these remakes, they might become my favorite Pokemon games ever.

I loved Gen 3. The starters were really cool (even if Mudkip and its evolution tree were OP by comparison to the others) They had some neat pokemon design ideas and the Legendaries actually lived up to the hype they got in universe (seriously on one playthrough I beat half the elite four and my rival with nothing but Kyogure)

And the environments! So much variety! We had ash-covered hills, deserts, normal grassy routes, rainforests, vast oceans, underwater segments, and a volcano! New Mauville might get a chance to be re-done into a properly impressive place, the Abandoned Ship could be made into something incredibly spooky, hell Shoal Cave was cool! It took until arguably Gen 5 or 6 for that much variety to be hit in a given region. It's really too bad the overworld isn't going to entirely be able to be viewed in 3d, but Fortree, Sootopolis, and Pacifidlog are all going to be awesome to view modeled in 3d.

I don't remember if the tier lists for Gen 6 are out yet, but it's worth noting that the only Pokemon that could compare to the dominance of Gen III-V Kyogre is Gen I Mewtwo. Kyogre was marginally easier to beat in a head-to-head match (although it generally required a weather inducer, Swift Swim, or the Gen V version of Storm Drain), but it's still one of those "alters the course of the game just by existing" 'mons. And it's not like Groudon was shabby, either.

All of my teams end up horribly weak to Dark types because I can't not have Psychic.

Of all things, I typically have issues with Grass. My favored type is Rock, so you'd think that my biggest issues would be Water, right? Except there are plenty of ways to handle pretty much every expected Water type (interestingly, my favorite is Relicanth - tons of HP, great defense, and learns Amnesia to shore up its special defense... oh, and has Head Smash and Rock Head, for a power 150 Rock attack with no drawbacks). People often complain about Fighting against Rock, but you'd be surprised at just how many Rock types are speedy. Plus, Fighting usually goes against Rock's better defense stat, so they can be tanked surprisingly well.

On top of all that, Storm Drain Gastrodon slots in perfectly on my typical Rock teams - immunity to Water, normal damage from Fighting, can tank effectively... it's a great defensive choice.

The problem is Grass attacks. Most of the best Rock types to use have at least one level of Grass weakness. Several (particularly all the Rock/Water types that are awesome to use) have two levels of it. My usual way to handle it is to either try an overwhelming sweep with Aerodactyl, tank it with Shuckle, or just try to overwhelm it with Aggron. Each of them have obvious drawbacks - beyond all three being weak to Water, Aerodactyl has no defense to speak of, Shuckle has no offense to speak of (outside of abuse of Toxic or Wrap; you can practically hear Gengar players giggle maniacally - also, Grass/Ghost and Grass/Poison are all set to do a battle of attrition), and Aggron manages to be doubly weak to both Earthquake and Low Kick.

Well, that's what you get when you try to build a Sandstorm theme team.

My favorites types are Dark and Ghost, but I usually just go with whatever Pokémon I think cool. Despite that the type I despise the most is Fighting. It seems the Pokémon I'm using notwithstanding, the enemy Fighting type will kill it in one hit, or get pretty close. Heck, some Pokémon of mine are levels above them and yet the Fighting attacks destroy me completely :(

I try to balance out my team's types, but other than that I'll grab whatever I want. My E4 team for X was Delphox, Jolteon, Blastoise, Florges, Lucario and Garchomp.

So... since some of the redesigns for Hoenn are now available, am I the only one that thinks that the style of the characters seems a little bit more childlike than usual? I mean, the gym leaders look sort of like kids to me as well .-.

Not that this is necessarily a bad thing though, I just found it slightly weird I guess? :p
