I debate that statement, Ruby and Yang's weapons can actually fire bullets and energy blasts respectively. The gunblade was a stylized sword that might cause a short-range fire burst if you timed a button press perfectly

First, Yang's gauntlets clearly fire some variety of shotgun shell themselves (possibly multiple types, and we just have seen her use the one in the trailer).

Second, while Squall didn't often use the ranged capabilities of the gunblade, the game made it clear that it did have them - a couple of his limit breaks involved using the gun at range.

Third, given the nature of FF8's combat system, he didn't really need to use it as a ranged attack all that often. Like most other console RPGs, distance between the player characters and the enemy is purely abstraction and meaningless - a sword or staff is as close of a weapon as a gun or a bow. Compare to Dissidia, where Squall can and will use the gunblade for projectile attacks (assuming you assign them, of course).

Ruby and Yang's weapons are certainly an evolution of the gunblade concept (given that even Dissidia didn't show Squall using the gunblade for propelling himself, although it did demonstrate how potent it could be at propelling others - Fated Circle spam!). But they're very clearly built on the same concept, and the evolution is fairly minor all things told.

Well yea they're shown as shotgun shells but they come out as energy blasts at any distance other but point blank.

As for the gunblade at range ability, I never noticed. I never saw the long-distance limit breaks and I never played dissidia. Chalk that up to my own ignorance

Why else would the show be pronounced "Ruby" even though there's intials in it?

That dinosaur is hilarious.

He has to appear in the show proper even for a cameo

"Getting real tired of your nonsense, Ruby." Have I mentioned yet that Weiss is turning out to be my favorite character? ;)

No but I have noticed that you seem pretty fond of characters who wield rapiers.

Episode 2: The Shining Beacon is up now. It's pretty short, but at least it looks like they'll be uploading often.

Right, so I got around to watching the second episode... Weiss isn't my favorite anymore. :? I love the way she fights, but she's a stuck up little tart. In other news, Blake is pretty awesome. :(

Aw don't worry, Issy, that's what Character Development is four. Nine times out of ten characters who are stuck up tarts at the beginning of something are at the very least bearable by the end.

Odd. I'd have thought that Blake would have been a Pegasus.

Seconded on the "Blake is awesome" bit. Thus far, her snarks have been epic. XD

I haven't seen it mentioned here, so... Episode 3 has launched :D It's about people who can sleep through a lot of noise.
Oh and the main cast.

I'm still not used to the silly cartoony behavior of Ruby. Everytime it happens I just go waaah? >_>

Kay, got around to the third ep. Not bad, though Weiss managed to be even more obnoxious than last time. Still, extra points for having all four of our leading ladies in the same scene! :D

These episode lengths are starting to get on my nerves, especially this week. They cut off right as they were about to get into what seems to be the main story!

Yeah, cliffhangers are probably a good thing to fall back on in case of stuff.

Your other option is to wait several months, and then watch it all at once.
