The villain resembles Alex from A Clockwork Orange.

Anyone else notice that the Huntress' magic was really similar to a lot of the stuff White used in her tailer?

I didnt even know about this show until the ep came out today and Facebook and TV Tropes exploded about it.
I'm liking it so far even if the animation takes a bit to get used to, it kind of reminds me of this old French animated show from a couple years back. EDIT: The show is Skyland, man was that series was odd but kinda cool
Regardless I'll be watching

Oh, is the show out yet?
I mean I saw the trailers, and they're pretty much eye candy, but it tales more than that to fascinate me. I'm looking forward to actually seeing this series.

Shoot, I thought it was Weiss until I remembered that she had white hair, not blonde. Plus, Weiss was shown to be a very prominent magic-user (Dust-user?), while Ruby, Blake, and Yang are more weapon-heavy. The Huntress was much the same, though without a weapon.

Once we find out more about how the world works, I think this could make a pretty cool RP idea.

I am totally making a character with that gun-scythe then.
Seriously that kicks ass

I dunno, I'm pretty fond of Weiss' magic rapier myself.

Yeah that's pretty cool though Yang's gun gauntlets are pretty badass.
Actually let's face it all the weapons in this show are badass.

Another vote for Wiess' magic rapier here. It just looks so... understated and cool. Less is more, ya know

I just saw the first episode as well. The animation style will as said take a bit to get used to, as well as the sense of humor. Ruby's character really surprised me, but in a good way

Then again, all this just means that they're trying something
new. And that's awesome

EDIT: Just realized that the animation style is different due to the program they're using. Are you familiar with it, Scarab?

Which program are they using, Rota? Blender?

That's the only one I know

One of my friends said she doesn't like it because it looks like it was badly animated in MMD.
Then I wanted to punch her in the face because she just compared this beautiful thing to something that can only render Vocaloids.

According to the credits-slash-advertising at the end of the video, they're using
Poser Pro 2014.

Eh, fine, I'll give this a view...
The opening kind of reminds me of some of the later Final Fantasy games - blend of magic and technology, imminent danger from ancient sources, highly stylized and distinct style... that said, they do a better job off the bat making the heroines likable than the Final Fantasy series has of late. I am intrigued.
Also, the weapons *heavily* remind me of Final Fantasy, particularly Ruby's and Yang's, which are scythe and gauntlet versions of the gunblade from FF8. That said, I think RWBY is better off because they embrace just how outlandish the concept is. Among the weapons, I have to admit to a fondness for Yang's shotgun gauntlets myself - I enjoy seeing a good brawl, and those look like they'd have the most potential application in one. That said, Weiss' magic rapier probably would be the most effective weapon, when one factors in all potential combat scenarios. Outside of the heroines... if you go to Blake's trailer, I have to admit, the katana with a rifle sheath is probably the most inspired weapon there. Takes iaijutsu to a whole new level.

Couple of odd notes: During the opening monologue, when Ozpin answers the unknown narrator, he says "But perhaps victory is in the simpler things that you've long forgotten - things that require a smaller, more honest soul.". This ends when we have our first glimpse of Ruby in the Dust shop (reading a weapons magazine, funnily enough) Then, during the opening thing at the end of the episode, there is the line "And victory is in a simple soul" that closes it, alongside a silhouette of Ruby following her being the last of the 10 "main" characters that are shown in the line up. Finally, during the interrogation, Ozpin's first remark upon seeing Ruby is to remark on her silver eyes.
Long story short, Ruby is important somehow, though she may not know it, and Ozpin either knows or suspects.
