Does anyone like Bioshock?

Yeah, played one and two and did a LP stream of Infinite for you guys (mostly Jack and Thor, really, and an irl friend).

I did a stream. Strange, my archive doesn't seem to contain the very first session. I guess if you want to see my stream, you'll have to start from past the introduction :/ Might miss out a bit of the plot.

I do. I've never played any of the games, but I've watched playthroughs for most of them.

Same. Although the games are very interesting. I liked all of them.

Watching playthroughs of games without playing the games seems... really bizarre to me.

Anyway, I've played the first one and I really liked it. The thing that worked best about it was spoilery. But it really made the game work as a narrative. I am currently in the middle of the second one, but I haven't bothered to play it in a while. I'm not sure if I'm not liking it as much because of the game itself, or if it's because I'm playing it on a laptop instead of an XBox. Someday I'll finish it, and probably play Infinite at some point in the future.

I've played one and infinite, and outside of 1 I haven't really enjoyed the series that much. Even with bioshock one, I thought the narrative took a huge dive after the awesome spoiler twist. Honestly they should have found a way for the game to end there, cause what proceeded after it really wasn't all that engaging or as interesting as what came before it. Also, that ending...augh.

With infinite, I thought the story was pretty good overall, even if there are certain aspects that I do not like (won't mention what in case of spoilers). However, I think they totally flubbed on narrative to gameplay element. The narrative just did NOT match what was going on from a gameplay perspective, there was a huge disconnect and isolation between the two. I strongly believe that, had they just completely removed the GAME part of the game, it would have made a fairly entertaining little mini-series or movie, which isn't good that I can say that. It was tacked on, just something to keep you busy until the next story event.

That a good game does NOT make, no matter how entertaining or well crafted the story may have been, which is why I have the rather unpopular opinion of disliking the game by a decent amount. But my thoughts on gaming and the need to combine the major elements it presents is way too long to just explain on a whim here, so I'll leave it at that haha.

It's all about System Shock anyway. <.< >.>

Watching playthroughs of games without playing the games seems... really bizarre to me.

Well, it's different for everyone. I'm just not a gamer myself. I only own a Wii, though I've had a PS1 and PS2 in the past (way, way in the past - God, I feel old). I barely remember the games I owned for PS1, and my PS2 was never a very serious thing, just something to pass the time with. The game I've devoted most time playing personally is Kingdom Hearts 2, and I've been pretty invested in the continuity ever since. But besides those, I've never spent much time playing.

However, just because I hardly ever play video games doesn't mean the concepts, stories, or puzzles don't interest me. So I find Let's Plays or other videos of the same kind, and let them play for me. I know that it sometimes means I miss out on certain content, but I'm by no means an experienced gamer, and I'm a bit jittery. If something creeps me out, or I just can't get past a certain boss (which is what happened with KH2), then I rage quit. And then I'll never see what happens. It's a decent enough compromise that I can live with.

I absolutely love Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite! Some of my favorite games of all time simply because of the genius writing by Ken Levine. With Bioshock I enjoyed the dark 40's esque atmosphere and the dissection of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. With Bioshock Infinite I found the action better but I felt the story was lagged by a more obvious political viewpoint, however I love the way the game decided to take the material in an unbiased manner.

The Bioshock series was one of the series that, in my view, paved the way for video games to be seriously considered an art form. Except Bioshock 2. That wasn't made by Irrational Games, wasn't written by Ken Levine, took a big dump on the series, and I hate it.

I have to say I love the Bioshock games. They've actually all been interesting enough despite the quite honestly run-of-the-mill gameplay (Yes Bioshock infinite doesn't bother me in that regard because honestly its the same gameplay with 3 new mechanics) Personally I find all the stories enticing and despite 2's story being the weakness it produced arguably the best character of any of the games in Sinclair (seriously that guy is great)

Can't disagree with that. Sinclair was pretty amazingtastic.

As much as I dislike Bioshock 2. Sinclair was just too entertaining for me to hate. He and Fontaine are pretty even when it comes to my favorite characters.

As much as I dislike Bioshock 2. Sinclair was just too entertaining for me to hate. He and Fontaine are pretty even when it comes to my favorite characters.

Also in anime terms I just got Steins;Gate, Death Note, all threee seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender and the first season of Legend of Korra.

I'm in a good mood.

Death note is such a great Anime. It's funny but I remember when Death note was extremely popular and was competing with big names like Naruto and Bleach and then by 2011 had an extreme drop in popularity for no real reason. Kinda sad.

Oh well at least we are getting a movie version of Death note being directed by Shane Black

I'm interested to see whether the film version can come out well. One of the channels here in Aus aired the two live action Death Note movies made in Japan and I checked them out. They're not bad and make some interesting deviations, but they don't reach the epic and over the top heights that the source material is well known for. Hopefully the new film can reach those sorts of heights, plus Shane Black is pretty awesome I loved his work on Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3.

Now if you mind, I'll take a potato chip AND EAT IT!

Excuse me I liked Iron Man 3 too but it still doesn't hold a candle to the first one and also in hindsight not making the Mandarin how he was from the comics was a waste. Yea I actually liked the route they went with him but after what happened in Avengers you cant say a guy with ten alien power rings is too silly for the series

Well considering they're building up to the *SPOILERS* infinity gauntlet for Avengers 3 which is basically the same concept as ten alien rings wrote large I dont see how it can be too much for the series
