The Sandman **Spoilers**

Postby Guyshane on Tue Oct 01, 2013 2:48 pm

So this thread is about Neil Gaiman's well-loved and critically acclaimed Sandman books. I figured I'd start this up since a large portion of us enjoy this series and because a new series written by Gaiman called The Sandman: Overture is starting at the end of the month.

Now as a caution this is a spoiler thread and that includes this article which serves as a bit of primer for the new series: http://www.vertigocomics.com/blog/2013/ ... he-endless

Gonna be honest, in spite of being a Gaiman fan? I've never properly sat down and read the Sandman, bar the couple of times they popped up in DC other series. I'm surprisingly enough, not really big on Graphic novels. But it definitely seems worth a look, so where would someone start with this series?
They sometimes say, "the place where I am right now was circled on a map for me"... Unfortunately, I kind of suck at orienteering.

The first volume is Preludes and Nocturnes. That said, it's half-epc, half-interconnected short story collection, so you should be fine jumping in anywhere provided you don't start with the last.
Lead by example. Get lost in a swamp.

AS DICTATED TO INSTANTIATION 17-01-18-01.

What Qara means by end is the last two volumes, if you jump in to either of those without context it'll be confusing and spoilerific. Also there is some continuity to the series so a few of the volumes set up minor plot points for later stuff. All that aside you're better of starting with Preludes and Nocturnes because it sets up the series and contains what many consider to be the best issue of the series.
