Forum Mafia

So, Chat seems to like the idea. Let's do it!

Rules:
  • I'll start the game roughly a week from now; all interested parties should indicate said interest by then.
  • The game starts on the first day phase, but no lynching can occur until the second day. All roles will be distributed at random.
  • Roughly one third of the players will be Mafiosi (exact number unknown). They each get one vote on who to kill in each night phase (their votes are visible to other Mafiosi). Voting to kill no-one is also possible. They win the game when they outnumber the Citizens. If there is only one Mafioso left, then the Mafia still wins by reducing the number of citizens to one.
  • Everyone else is a Loyal Hardworking Citizen (or just Citizen). They win when the Mafia is completely wiped out.
  • During each day phase, every player (including Mafia) get one vote on who to lynch that day, or to not lynch anyone. These votes are public. If someone is lynched, they die and their allegiance is made public. Day phases last roughly a week, or until there's a majority lynch vote, whichever happens first. If time runs out, the highest number of votes carries it, with ties being decided by coin flip.
  • Dead players are not permitted to interact with the game any more.
  • One other Citizen will be the Doctor. In each night phase, he may choose one player to protect. If that player is targeted by the Mafia, his life will be saved. If someone's life is saved this way, the Doctor's identity will be revealed to his charge, but not to anyone else. The Town will only be told that no deaths occurred that night. The Doctor cannot protect himself.
  • Dead players have their allegiance revealed, but not their role.

Player Status:
  • Krika (Town, Doctor)
  • Endless Sea (Town)
  • Victin (Mafia)
  • Dryunya (Town)
  • narrativedilettante (Mafia)
  • JackAlsworth (Town)
  • eli_gone_crazy (Town)
History:
  • Day One: No-one lynched
  • Night One: Krika killed; he was town-aligned
  • Day Two: Endless lynched; he was town-aligned
  • Night Two: eli killed; she was town-aligned
  • Day Three: Victin lynched; he was scum-aligned
  • Night Three: Jack killed; he was town-aligned
  • Mafia wins.

Oh, I think I played this before! Except instead of a Mafia, there was one werewolf, and we had to find her and kill her in the morning. It was Halloween. :P

Interesting, but as I said in the chat I've never played this before. So, uh... *gulp* fill me in?

@Isla: Same game, really. Just different names for everything.

@Victin: If you're a Citizen, try and figure out who the Mafia are. If you're Mafia, try to look like a Citizen. That's basically it.

Yeah, I know that, but I can always screw up somehow :<

Then you'd better hope you're a Citizen and not a Mafia then, huh? :P

I am interested. I am also interested in the technical details (mostly, how and where we host the game).

In this thread. Or I could start a new one later, but I figured this one would work fine.

In fact, why not go ahead and consider this Day Zero.

I've edited the rules slightly, mostly to add some ambiguity about the exact number of Mafiosi. This is so I can tweak the numbers if it looks too slanted.

I probably wouldn't be able to keep up, and I don't want to hold the game up, so I won't be playing.

I do have a rules question, though:

One Citizen will be the Detective. In each night phase, he may investigate one player to discover whether they are in the Mafia or not. This doesn't work on the Godfather.

By "doesn't work", do you mean that the Detective would detect them as a regular Citizen? Because otherwise it would be very easy to tell who the Godfather was.

Just to clarify, I'm not interested in playing (at least not this first round), but I'd like to see how it goes.

Bah. Five people is hardly worth playing. It's like the absolute minimum.

Ah well. This is me signing up.

Given the lack of players, I think I'll retire the Godfather and Detective roles. There's little point having a Godfather to hamper the Detective if there's only one person left that he can find, but the detective becomes too powerful without it. So the only special role at all will be the Doctor.

The Game is on!

You should have all received PMs telling you your role. I'll give that 24 hours to sink in before we start the killing.

Um. Looks like I forgot to put you on the list. Just... give me a second to fit you into the simulation.

Also, your avatar seems to be missing.

Okay, Eli is in the game!

On an unrelated note, the game as is could use some rebalancing (it was already unbalanced before Eli was added, btw, and I'm not saying whether he made it worse or better). Thus, I'm allowing a lynch before the first night. Let's just say that the Mafia murdered Isla last night or something.

Everyone gets a vote, which must be posted here. You can discuss among yourselves who is suspect here, in chat or in PMs as you see fit. 24 hours after a majority vote is reached (4 votes), it will be enacted unless someone withdraws or changes their vote before then. There is a one week deadline in place; the person with the most votes at that time will be lynched anyway, with ties decided at random.

Who are you lot going to throw out of the game? You must decide!! (or you could vote "no-one", that's perfectly valid)
