More Modern Characters: Arcs across the wall

Postby Chief Wakamakamu on Fri Oct 19, 2012 3:23 pm

So, its pretty clear now classic characters are going to be the majority of characters which cross the wall. So the question is: If there were more modern characters crossing -- from TV, from games, from cartoons, what arcs would you give them? Going by what seems to be the precedent established by the Witch where they lose everything but inherent abilities.

"Pinkie Pie would quickly get bored of lack of color and randomness across the wall -- the world here does not obey the Rule of Funny as she does, but instead, the law of gravity. She would get increasingly depressed and homesick."

Alucard comes through and storms The Vatican. Win.

On another thread we discussed having every character played by Harrison Ford come through and fix every problem ever in about five minutes.

Just gonna say here, assuming the Witch has no power is a REALLY bad idea. Sure she can't curse US, for obvious in and out of story reasons. I mean, how could she use a spell on US when she doesn't know who or where we are at all?

Well, that's irreverent to the thread, Sicon, but then "Assuming that what we think is happening with the Witch is actually happening with the Witch" =P It's just setting a framework for the discussion.

I agree that it's a bad assumption that she has no power, but I would like to point out that she didn't mention anything about cursing the investment bankers that failed to financially back her.

OT: I kind of wonder what would happen if a character from a futuristic setting got over here. Like Master Chief. That might not go over so well.

GLADoS would be helpless until some company recognizes her potential and decides to install her into their mainframe. However, she quickly discovers that -- since everything here is not automated and customizable and... sadistic... the best she can do is send out spam emails.

Fix'd.

How about... oh I dunno, Tony Stark. That would be utterly hilarious...and probably really awesome.

Well the poor Pokemon would probably all end up in zoos or in experimental laboratories and so on, although there might be hope for some of them as power suppliers, pets, or assists for the disabled. Their increased intelligence in comparison to regular animals would put them constantly at odds, though.

(OT: There's a WMG on the Pokemon page of tv tropes that supposes that Pokemon takes place many millennia post apocalyopse, and the pokemon remember and are tring to keep it from happening again. I always kind of liked that WMG...)

...We're sure she's not already here, right? (On the other hand - having portal technology would ROCK.)

How about Darth Revan? I have no clue what he would do, mind you, but it would be awesome. Kyle Katarn is interchangeable.

Old Man Henderson crosses over. A hilarious quest to recover his lost garden gnomes ensues. End result? Probably the end of the world as we know it.

Well, thats kind of the thing. None of the tech comes over except for the personality core. So GLADoS is stuck discovering science is boring and Not Her Kind Of Science.

Gentleman Jonny Marcone. Arrives in Chigago. Sees the witch's campaing poster and realizes the potential for control. Get's her elected. Drug traffic in the US bows down to the new overlord. Child abuse levels in the country drop to zero shortly afterwards. Normal humans completely unaware.

Edited after Chief's sugestion. :D

I don't know a lot of these characters =P It would be helpful if you actually described their arcs.

Batman. Winds up in Seattle and joins the Rain City Superhero movement, but gets arrested for excessive force and quickly gets over his head.

Do you think that Santa can pass through the wall?
Dolphins are some of the smartest animals, yes, but by human standards… Let's say you should praise the god that forces them to stay handless and underwater.

Nah... We'll have Sicon write a guardians' story about him trying to cross.

But trying to kill Santa with ridiculous battle scenes would be cruel! He is just a harmless old man who gives kids presents! Not that that would in any way stop me from DOING it mind you...

Phineas And Ferb: They become frustrated when building projects take much longer to complete than a day and find obtaining building permits to be more of a hassle then they are used to. They decide, instead, to spend their days inside watching TV.

Darkwing Duck (Because he's my avatar, so it'd be silly to leave him out): He starts to fight crime, but ends up freaking everybody out due to being a talking duck. He is captured by government agencies who try to study him FOR SCIENCE!
If everyone would just agree with me, there would never be any problems.
