I'd love to!

Then I already have a head start!

Damn it then. I will have to read your stories in the Christmas week (because I want to read them, but I think I'll have time only in Christmas week)

Yeah I have the same problem (the current name, as you might have guessed, is just a placeholder) I'm pretty sure you can change it at a later date.

Dudes, seriously. The Nano, the Forum RP a lot of us are invvoled in AND having to write the fictionals back into their stories (have we started that by the by? And has anybody stopped Anansi yet?). All this on top of real life issues... Is anybody here actually also working on a way in which any one individual can remain conscious and functioning for thirty solid dayswithout going crazy? Because I think we may need it.

I'll take time tomorrow to set up everything I need to work on my NaNo...

Also, Anansi is overdue. I think it's already stopped, but Gurt didn't post the canon choice yet... So there's that...

But, let's see: NaNo, eventual Wall Emergencies, 2 RP Threads (for me) and the Refictionalization? Doood...

Yes. Last year, I titled my novel on the last day of the month. (And then changed it again to input on the certificate)

I guess I'll write it until I have an idea for the title. I have no idea if I had to enter something or not, because I'll only start it on November 1st

Yeah, some people work like that. Generally many writers use 'working titles' that may completely change by the time the story makes it to the public view. Sometimes the appropriate name just doesn't exist until you've written half, or even all of it, because you don't always really know what the story is ABOUT (not what the characters are doing and why, but the overall meaning of what you're writing) until you've written it. The original pitch for 'Amnesia: The Dark Descent' for example was 'Unknown' (the final game itself is also seriously different from said pitch.

Nanowrimo is about creative freedom, rough drafting, and resisting the urge to edit no matter how strong. As one of their best bits of advise says on the website: some people have this idea that it's possible to write a brilliant first draft if you just write slowly enough. It isn't.

Yeah, I don't have any idea of what I'll write. I just know what I WANT to write. How do you think I can start my story? I'm thinking of making it on the first person, with a shifting narrator. Or maybe I'll shift between first ad third person narration. I don't know.

See, you're off to a good start. Write it however you wish - it's just a first draft so later on, things can always be changed and improved. As for HOW to start it... hm, well one of the Nano-rules IS 'when in doubt throw ninja's at it'... How about Ninjas attacking a stagecoach? XD

No, I meant, I know what I want to happen. But I don't know HOW to write it. Suggestions?

Well... I know I'll start with a prologue, narrating the events of the cataclysm to set the world up... As for the first chapter itself... I have no idea how to handle. This is going to be fun! :D

Exactly, right now I suspect your brain is completely and desperately churning through thoughts and esperately grasping at ever drop of fiction you ever knew or read and every dream you ever had that you for some reason remember, seeking inspiration as the deadline towards the beginning of the contest clicks ever, ever closer...

ISN'T IT BRILLIANT? :D

I want to start writing now, but I don't want to cheat. I've got Fae, a steampunk world (which is connected by some kind of weird magic to a High Fantasy-type world where the Fae live), reincarnation, and fairy tales that are a little too real for my heroine to be comfortable.

maybe I'll just outline...yeah... >.>

Sorry, what's Fae?

It's another word for fairy folk, I believe.

I'm not sure there really IS a way to cheat at Nano, actually a lot of people DO work on stuff they were technically already working on before it started. I don't think there's any strict rule against it. I only have a brief snippet at the mo, which I used for my sample... Alas it's really all I can think of O_o

Yeah, I was sure I heard that before, but still I didn't remember.
I don't know. Some people are already working into that, but I'll only start on the day.

I know lots of people have done NaNo with works they'd started beforehand, but it just isn't right for me, personally. I dunno I'm weird.

And yes, Fae are fairy-folk. I'm taking alllllllllll kinds of liberties with my fairies. (Can't be any worse than what SMeyer did to vampires, amirite?)

Sorry, I do'nt recognize the name SMeyer too
I like that idea of playing with already made fictional creatures. Keep doing whatever you are. But, sorry for asking, could you help me with my reference pool? I want to put some small details here and there, so fridge logic can issue, but I'm having soem trouble in my research.

Whoops, sorry, SMeyer is Stephanie Meyer, author of the Twilight books.

I will absolutely help you research! Just send me a PM or post here if you need any help. I'm not super super active but I do check at least once or twice a day. :)

I guessed that, but I haven't read Twilight. BUT, as far as I'm concerned, having the vampires to be friendly to humans makes sense.

My first question is if there's a way to have this character (which I'm calling... ugh, Octhavia) have a name which refers to the number 8. That's her theme or something. The boy is Noble Gases, but I still haven't focused on him because of her >x<

The Fair Folk... I like it. Planning to have a Titania?

I intend to write a few shorts to get the feel for the Fae... But not on this NaNo. I'm going completely after-the-end to see if I can handle writing a completely fictional world... I hate writing stuff in real world scenarios.

Opt is using a premade story to enter. I did read it a few days back. It's quite good and it was at ~25k already. But I myself will start writing on 1st only.

Also Vic, If you need help with research I can help too. Either PM or call me in the chatroom. ^^

No, I'll be playing with stories about the Unseelie Fae. No Oberon and Titania this go-'round.

@Vic: Have you tried websites like behindthename.com or something similar? There's a menu on the upper-right hand corner of the screen where you can search for names by meaning. You could even go really abstract if you don't want the eight symbolism obvious--you know, the symbol for infinity kind of looks like a sideways eight, so maybe use a name that means "forever" or "eternal"?
