Isla-- I find I often connect characters to letters of the alphabet which "have" to be in their names.
You might want to try looking in a baby name book/website for ideas....

My own male MC got his name when I auctioned off naming a character after someone in my grade 12 charity auction a few years ago... He paid $90, which REALLY surprised me, but his name was perfect for my then-as-yet-unnamed male MC, so go figure!

Alright, so, it needs to be uncommon, but not completely ridiculous, huh? Well, my specialty happens to be Awesome McCoolnames (The main character of a story I wrote once was named "Raithrus Marcosias Sepulchre" for God's sake!) so I'll have to nerf myself a little.

How's this sound? Just off the top of my head.

Galian Alek Valentine. Make him go by Galian A. Valentine, because it sounds cooler that way.

EDIT: Also, for the record, Alister was originally the name of a crazy conspiracy theorist maniac blogger badass normal I once made, who served as butt monkey of the universe and comedic relief in a thread full of ex-military badasses and other cliches. Also, he drove an El Kamino.

Hm. It has merit. I like the Alek part, and I actually almost named him Alex before I decided it was too normal. Valentine... sorry, but no. Though if I tweak Galian and make that his last name... *ponder, ponder*

Galian AND Valentine? Is this a Final Fantasy reference? Vincent Valentine? Or am I drawing lines between non-existent dots?

When it comes to naing characters I actually often look to OLDER names, names that were popular centuries ago... this gives me a variety of interesting oues, like Millicent, Mehetibel, Ozy, Tamar (unisex name, my great aunt was named that), and Gertie. They're unique because they aren't used much, but they still fit in with relatively normal society (I'm writing a story set in the remnants of a British town, after all, I'm not going to nane names like Ayrin, Sirius and Sparkly McPants buzzing around.

Trust me, having a name that three other people have in the same class as you for mssot of your life gets really old, really fast >.>

There are indeed. I think it's more common for girls, but it can be used for both... I THINK anyway, I heard of a book once about a girl named Tamar looking for the history of her great grandfather, also named Tamar).

My name is officially unisex, but only in recent years has it ever been used for girls. Meaning in the first half of my life I had met about 5 or 6 boys (and a paper company) that had the same name as me.

Okay, I still don't know if I keep with this story or not, it's harder to write than I thought, but I'm not sure what I can write instead. But of everything I can do, I don't want to give up on NaNoWriMo. I'm pretty sure I won't make it, but I still want to write. Any thougths?

My problem is that I can think of a plot or of a setting, but never both. If I do, I forget. I think it would be better for me to give my ideas to adoption, and let them grow.

Quick question - how do you build the novel? Do you write a section on Word and then upload it somehow? I'm confused.

I think you just o on create novel, then to update the word count you use the one at windows and insert the number in the top of the page. Well, that's what Pixel said.

I see you already have a novel "created". Just update your wordcount to the box in the first line of the page and click update word count.

But... how do they tell who won if there's no actual novel?

Does anybody know where I can find information on electricity generatio =n for small communities? What would work best for that if no power were available from outside sources? Turbines, maybe.

Starting Nov 25, there will be a section to copy-paste your novel for the wordcount to be validated.
