Now I just split up my Battle Couple. Well, they didn't really had a reason to stay together anyway so it was only obvious... I think I'm tangling myself into a dead end... :(
Damn... What to do... What to do...
Character development time! Narrate both of them as they come to realize they can help each other and actually need/want to.
And oh the plot holes I'm getting myself into... I'm only 6.5k in and have no bloody idea where this is going...

I have 2.5k and I have no idea if I keep going or not. At least you can still make it.
Go, go Pixel!

CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY YOU'BE GOTTEN THAT FAR!

No seriously, I ALWAYS struggled with writing characters, the ones I have so far feel like I've taped a couple of traits onto a popsicle stick figure. :x

To me the characterization is the easiest part!
I could probably stall to 50k just creating and fleshing out character drama! But... I'm not sure how to handle this... I feel like the events of chapter 3 were too rushed...

And I set up a trap on myself... Helios (Yeah..) agreed to the 'impossible mission' and all, but all I have him doing is walking south to meet the current head of the military force... While guarding Alice (yes, I wouldn't write a book without an Alice), who does NOT require protection... How do I make the task seem as impossible as I set it up to be?!

Almost the same story as I'm writing. And your character's name is Helios, which fits in my main character noble gases and fire/energy theme. O_o

Actually, Helios from the predecessor of Apollo. As the one who brings the sun.
No gas stuff related. =P

What's the impossible mission? (Throw ninjas at it) Either impair Alice or exaggerate the dangers severely.
Also, Chapter 3? Am I the only one who just classified my writing each day as one chapter?

Okay, since I've been suffering from Writers' Block, I've decided we should all do something about it. ^_^
That is, every post we make in this thread from now on should end with a writing "prompt" for whoever sees it.

here's mine, for now: Have a character mistakenly assume that someone (or thing) is named Steve.

That reminds of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FArZxLj6DLk

Um. Here's a prompt. Actually I dreamt this two days ago. Don't judge my dreams. A personified anthropomorphised Death who meets the character through an online chatroom.

Oh dear lord... That fits so well with my setting!!!
(Names are important stuff. Nothing is Named at all. When someone is called by a name it is either because he's a self centered bastard with an inflated view of himself, or he was deemed worthy of being called as an individual by others. One Steve incoming!)

@Agora... Yeah. Now I got the idea for the impossible task to be actually impossible. Though I have to thread carefully to avoid writing AliSue!

Okaycan I run an idea past you clever people (urgh last minute research is no fun at all)? I just wanna know some yay or nays on whether this sounds like it makes sense. I recently had to do some research, and ask around on the nanoforums with regards to electricity production in an isolated civilisation where there is no outside option. I had considered a variety of ideas from car batteries to solar power, but none seemed suitable for providing even limited power to an entire town.

I eventually settled on the idea of using an on location Sawmill/Timbermill, which are often located near water sources (and water is one of the few natural environmental factors I have to work with) in order to create power. I discovered from folks in the forum than many sawmills use their own waste products - useless wood and so on, inorder to power the steam generators which then create the electricity that runs their facilities. In some cases, they produce so much energy doing this, that they are able to proide electricity back into the grid and power other buildings.

Now... imagining that the timber was NOT being used a great deal and could simply be burned for fuel... ALL the power the factory produced could be used to power a town, right? if it was a smallish sort of mill, then it could be used specifically to power the most important places - hospitals, refridgerators and so on, but either way we'd HAVE power... that makes sense, right?

This also gives me a potential JOB for a character (who's intro scene I may have to rewrite because I don't want him coming across as a thoughtless arsehole >.>), as well as a potential place to hide my SUPER SECRET HIDDEN THING. Which I am not gonna tell you... cause it is secret.

Assuming the mill was repurposed to work exclusively as a power plant. Yep, it works, no problem at all.

In other news, I've just decided to write a big long random scene where my characters go ride a tram. Even though the technology is WAY too advanced for my setting.

Just because I love you guys. :gurt:

What has a tram got to do with us?

JOIN THE TRAM, AGORA. WE ARE THE TRAM. WE ARE TRAM METAGUARD.

(and if you read the chatlogs, this might even make sense. Or check the YMMV page. Just roll with it, okay? WE ARE A TRAM.)

All I know is, I now have a timber mill which has been haphazardly converted into a power station that only sort of works only sort of half the time.

This is what I wasted my day doing.

I SUCK at Nanowrimo :(

Scarab. Stop thinking. ;)

Oh, want to have electricity? Use the mill. Next scene. :)

Keep the novel going. You can do it!

*sigh* NaNo is really consuming me. Exams just ended, or at least are more or less over and I want to play, but NaNo just forces me to churn out word after tired word and I don't know how long I can keep this up. Its only been a week, but I feel worn out. I was thinking of going to the library to go relax and find some books, which I probably won't find, but then I think about how much I have to write and its terrible. My friends are pretty supportive, but I'm feeling, in Bilbo's words, like too little butter spread over too much bread. Does this always happen?

Take breaks, Agora.
Socialize.
Chill with friends.
The time for words will come, but don't let it take up all your time. It's not worth it.
The world needs your novel; but it needs you intact to write it. Don't kill yourself on this.
