Agreed with Qara. I know Nano is a contest and all but really, it's not the end ofthe world. You should write for the joy of writing as much as for winning the conterst. If it's not fun right now, then it's tie to takea break. That's why on the 7th day I'm only 7000 words in - I didn't really start to feel I COULD write it properly until the fifth or sixt day and I kept showing up here and on the chatrooms stressed out about it. Not everyone writers the same way. Don't beat yourself uo, just come back to it when you're ready.

Victin wrote:I stopped writing in the second day.

I repeat toy you what we just said to Agora, Vic. Don't beat yourself up, write as you can, but keep trying :) It may not happen at the required speed, it may not be completed or a winner, but if you want to be a writer, then write.

Guys, it's day 7, there's still time to come around and complete.
Opt, you can let this rest and finish the half complete novel first, then come back to the first when you actually want to write it.
Vic, who cares whether or not you make 50k? Just keep writing for fun! Write write write!

Honestly though, one thing that really caught my attention about NaNo was on the Wiki page where it said they offered winners last year paperback copies of their novels. Initially, I wanted to win just for that.
After a while, I got a bit doubtful and that left my mind and I just wanted to do NaNo because I have never written a novel and if I can, it's a milestone.
It's a bit of a dilemma. I tell myself that if I can endure for just a couple more weeks, I'll have done something that I'll be proud of. I know that. On the other hand, it's tiring and I still can't tell if its worth it.
I like writing, damn it. I love writing. This novel is beginning to feel forced and contrived and unnatural, but I still want to write. I just don't know how long I can force a pseudo-plot and keep making things up on the spot.
I guess that might be why I'm annoyed at myself too.
Thanks for the support guys :) I really appreciate it.

I feel like I'm running in circles with this thing. I am making stuff up on the fly. I will beta this sucker next month. 29,440 words down, 20,560 to go. It's so daunting. The only thing getting me through is knowing that this really is just a first draft, and nothing is set in stone.

I feel exactly the same way right now. I only have the vaguest idea of where I'm going and I feel as if I'm just pulling ideas out of my ass without them having any logic. Still in a contest where one of the rules is 'if in doubt, throw ninjas at it'... well I guess it's acceptable but still it needles my inner editor (SHADDUP INNER EDITOR!)

I've changed back to my original story that I would have done if not for Pixie!
Title isn't fixed, Finch, but for now it's Karmesinrot.

Not really, when you consider that Karmesinrot is German for Crimson Red. Also, Karmesin happens to be the last name of the protagonist.

You can do it! It's perfectly fine! :D

I dunno, Agora :/ I really don't think it's doable at this point, but you know what they say - it ain't over until the fat lady sings.

Hey, even if you don't get to 50k words, you will have gotten somewhere and it'll feel good when you've finished it, deadline or not.
Of course, I've never actually done a novel length, so I wouldn't know but I presume so!

40813 words so far. I wrote well over 6000 words yesterday to make up for all the writing I couldn't get done at my future in-laws' house over the holiday. It's okay. If I can just crap out 800 or 900 words until Wednesday, when I'll have a day off from work and can focus on getting in 6000+ words, I'll be in the clear.

9187 words to go. How hard could it be? How long could it take?

That rocks, man, keep going!

Just crossed over the 30000 line a couple of days back... I have to write over two thousand words per day in order to hit the deadline. I might then make 2000 words per day my limit of what I need to write each day in order to hit 50000 words by the deadline, since even if I DO hit 50000 at this point, the story won't be completed... and I am determined to finish this one. Thie first story I'll have finished in a decade... :D

Is the verification system online yet? I always start to really freak out the second I find the verification system is online, but I also always forget where the heck they even put it :|

I think it is online, but, man, I can't ever remember where it is. I think it's under the bit where you input your wordcount.

*Shrug* I can't see it :?

Although I FINALLY crossed the 40000 word mark today? It feels doable now! It's funny, I'm still not convinced the story is any good but I seem to have rediscovered the joy of writing so much... I lost that in the last few years :)

I feel like I have a second wind coming now that I've hit 40k. It's kind of exhilarating. I have never ever been this close to finishing, and I don't feel like I'll beat myself up if I don't manage to get 50k. I,too, feel like I've rediscovered the joy that is writing for writing's sake. :D

I did it. Final count: 50,218. I suppose I could go on, but the story really does end there. It needs lots of editing. There are places where I'm sure you can tell I rambled on for the sake of getting my wordcount, and places where you can tell I added things solely for adding words, and places where things are rushed or tacked-on.

I don't care though. I'm putting this thing away and not looking at it until January, at least.

Well done and I don't blame you

The good news is I'm probably, hopefully, going to hit 50000.

The bad news is... the story really isn't finished. I guess I could rush to finish it in the next four days... nah I don't think it's worth making the pacing worse than it already is.

Sigh...

Well, I may suck at helping save the world. But never let it be said that I can't churn out 50000 words of writing :D

The story itself is, currently, probably about two thirds through, and that’s me trying to take into account the terrible pacing problems, but heck, I got there! And with two days to spare, too! 8-)
