The way I saw it was like this. I think some physicist dude (or dudes) predicted the date that they'd find the Higgs Boson, which was the Tuesday mentioned in the comic. Also, the LHC was gonna fire but then I think it malfunctioned. So they were getting their crossbows ready to go shoot the dude who made the prediction. (That last line may or may not be entirely false.)
