I am convinced something is going on with Twilight in general, but nothing like this. At least not YET ;)

Er... well, it is the season finale. And an extended synopsis says that she will 'ascend into princesshood.' And this shit's been hitting the fan for at least a week and the creators have confirmed it. So.... Where's my rooftop? :D

I stand corrected :) This should be interesting... and they're planning a fourth season too, sooo who knows what happens next.

ANYWAY. As for the actual topic, I believe that Twilight's gonna be a lot like Cadance. I kinda separated her from Luna and Celestia in the first place, mainly because A) she wasn't originally intended to be an alicorn, and B) because her special talent is spreading love, not manipulating a heavenly body or force of nature.

We don't know much about Cadance's past, besides that she babysat Twilight, but it could be that when she learned how to spread love the way she did, she wrote her own magic for it. This could explain why we don't see any other unicorn or alicorn doing what she does, and it fulfills the criteria for ascending. Or it could be something completely different, given her connection to the Crystal Empire, but these are but theories anyway. Thoughts?

On the other hand, Twilight possesses incredible power, AND is Celestia's pupil to boot - Celestia could be grooming a successor. Twilight has defeated three ancient evils and was instrumental to the defeat of a fourth, most of which Celestia didn't lift a hoof against - AND Twilight controls the key to the Elements of Harmony - which were formerly Celestia's and Luna's.

You know, I always wondered about Cadence's powers, because there are some obvious moral issues with making people fall in love. I actually reckon her ability isn't to spread love, but to encourage it where it already exists. Like that couple arguing in her first episode for example: clearly already a couple having an off day, they just needed to be reminded that they loved each other.

I mean, it's pretty clear at this point that Celestia has been grooming (no pun intended) Twilight for something for quite a long while now. My fan favourite theory is that its absed on her name: Twilight, the period between night and day. Could this be some kind of connection between Twilight and the two princesses? I highly suspect if Celestia has any role for Twilight it'll probably be an ambassadorial one.

Anyway, there's also the whole elemnts of harmony thing. So far as we know, the Princesses are the last people apart from the main six who can use them. I do wish we knew exactly what went down all those years ago whenthe elements of Harmony were first used.

Not to mention all the subtext in the season premier. Obviously, things are going to make reappearances in the finale, though whether it all truly means that Twilight is going to succeed Celestia is impossible to tell.

Well, considering that the game would cater to the fighting-game fandom regardless of whether or not they have prior knowledge of MLP. It would serve to bring new people into the demographics of pony watchers.

Case in point: I don't really follow comic books. Back when Marvel vs. Capcom in actual arcades was a thing, I got to play with friends and it got me to get a few comics to know more about the characters. Where otherwise I wouldn't have done so.

Being a strictly fan-game, with zero commercial profit, it's goddamn free advertising for the MLP Franchise. Even from a commercial point, a C&D Order is so stupid that I don't have words for it.

Wow. That's pretty stupid, especially when there are examples of what happens when creators let fans do as they wish in plain sight all over the place. *cough*Touhou*cough*

Yeah pretty much this. I mean perhaps this is a case of 'the law is the law regardless of whether it's right' or something - until recently Hasbro were farily wide open and turning a blind eye to most fan activities: they even SENT info the EQD sometimes, but... it's still rediculous. The game was pretty damn good looking, and Im sure nobody on the creative team would want it to be shut down like this.

I'm not sure if I interpreted the news right, but according to EQD's report on the subject, one of the members of the project actually did quit over this, effective immediately.

Members of the Mane6 team, or member of the My Little Pony team?

Actually, 2 members of the Mane6 team.
One back in january, presumably once they got the letter. And another one just now in february, which I assume was when they reached the point of "Ok, we now give up and release the 'Closed shop' news."

Mane6 wrote:We also want to inform the general public of the final and irrevocable resignation of James Workman (Elosande) from the Mane6 DevTeam, effective February 6, 2013, as well as reminding of the final and irrevocable resignation of Prominence, effective January 30, 2012. The Mane6 DevTeam no longer represents their interest, nor do they represent ours.

My favorite bit about this episode (aside from the songs) is the insight that they give into how a pony's cutie mark works. The way I see it, a cutie mark appears when a pony discovers her special talent and directs them in finding out how to use it. Rarity got hers by not just finding gems, but using them in her fashion line, which is why she's a dressmaker instead of a miner or jeweler. When they sing about 'what my cutie mark is telling me,' I find that the mark itself doesn't show everything, but that the presence of a cutie mark tells the pony who has it what it means on a subconscious level.

Having a set of butterflies on your flank superficially says that your talent has something to do with butterflies, but subconsciously you know that it means that you understand all animals. Having a rainbowbolt on your flank superficially means that you have something to do with rainbows, but subconsciously you know that you have a talent for weather and other types of sky manipulation (including Sonic Rainbooms :P).

Yet, if for some strange reason, you have the wrong cutie mark (like in this ep or with the Cutie Pox), then you are compelled to do what your cutie mark tells you, regardless of whether you're good at it or you enjoy doing it. Thoughts?
