A thread for discussing the (possible) fight thread.

Dolphins are some of the smartest animals, yes, but by human standards… Let's say you should praise the god that forces them to stay handless and underwater.

OK, as far as the suggestions go, I'm leaning towards an amalgamation of ideas.

I think the setting should be, to an extent, the meta-setting Mimsy, suggested. i.e. We all use the forums to create a virtual world type space, and just create powersets for imaginary avatars that run around and battle each other. We can change avatar powers between battles and challenge people as we see fit. This may work, as Vic suggested, as a giant round based match, but I think a one-on-one system would be more workable most of the time. Basically, all we need to do is agree to have a match with however many people in it and agree on an order between combatants. We can work out the specifics of how this will work later, let's get the basics first.

As for powersets, I like the idea of making all attacks be an external, corporeal assault. That would go a very long way towards balancing, and the rest could probably be put together later on a case-by-case basis.

And for losing conditions, we all seem to be good enoguh that I believe an honor system would work fine. If you can think of a good, logical explanation and the action fits within the bounds of the balancing methods we put in place, we go wit it. No one controls other people's characters, etc. You take reasonable damage and everything. I could work with an HP system, I suppose, but it would not be my first choice. Perhaps an emergency measure if we fail at the implementation of an honor system for one reason or another.

I do really want this to be a skill and narrative based game, so I strongly disagree with any implementation of outside things such as voting by other parties. That just makes this a democracy, and it shouldn't be.

Not much was added after you left. I put up this post here with my opinions on the matter, no one really seemed to have a lot to say on the subject, Xana and I discussed post limits on duels to make them shorter, but I pointed out that someone involved, either the players or a third party, would probably need to godmode/give up if we tried to enforce that, so it was really a moot point. I said to just suggest that everyone kept the duels from going on for weeks...

Genny, assuming we are to follow Sicon's baseline where you can switch loadouts in between fights, it's kind of a moot point to create a character profile in antecipation.

Well, you would create powersets with a template every time you changed, I suppose. You could pretty much warp appearance as you wish between fights as well, and that would just require a note on a template.

So I have been giving this a little thought. Maybe something like this for a character sheet


Basic Description of look (or picture)
Power Set

Simple enough and easy to change out. Also as for the fighting if we are going for the this is a computer game type thing we would just refer to our enemy as their username. Like "Man Sicon if that is the best you got maybe I should have used an easier character" etc.

Also a player control HP thing. Like both players start out at 100 health and then have to decide how much damage the other player does with their attacks. That way their can be an eventual end and the player decides whats fair. Just my two cents.

Also how I see most fights starting out is both players appear in an empty room. Trade smack talk for a post and then yell something like "Virtualize Field" to create the battlefield (ranging from on a ship to on top of a volcano) and then having the fight begin.

Knowing Xana's style, different techniques. But you could sort out in ascending order of power too. That would be convenient.
