Faust. Do you know what it is?

Anything goes.

Faust. Do you know what it is?

Postby Lordxana0 on Fri Nov 30, 2012 2:45 am

Okay so I realized today at least four people I know don't know the story of Faust and have never even heard it mentioned. How many people here can say that they don't even know of it. Be honest.

It's referenced all over the places I go. Don't know how anyone could miss it. To be fair, I never read the PLAY, but I know the whole plot.
Normal people are the easiest to manipulate. Too smart and they have an annoying tendency to catch wind of your plans, too dumb and, in the words of a certain pirate, "You can never tell when they are about to do something incredibly...stupid."

I read it too, but I don't really remember it well, and didn't understand it properly when I did. Just like everything I read. :(

The same everyone said, I guess.
Didn't read the original, but I read a summary and some references here and there... So I have the general idea.

I know what happens in it, but I've never even seen a book version.

I know naught of this book.
The statement above is true phonetically and literally.
Apparently, slightly less weird than most of you.

Like I said in the chat, I read the play. But I already knew the basic story from the Terry Pratchett satire, which is better.

I haven't read the Goethe, but I do know the basic story well.
In life, he suffered from a sense of unreality, as do many Englishmen.

Faust? He's the guy who sold his soul to the devil via some guy named Mephistopheles. He had grand dreams of changing the world, but ended up squandering it all on jokes and wealth and other nice things and not actually making any difference at all, right? Probably because of some idea that these things must be EARNED not just given, or something...

I knew those English classes would come in handy sooner or later. :D

I felt kinda sorry for him by the end, to be honest. :(

Know the plot, but I haven't read it.

We read it in English a few years back. I recall quite enjoying it, even with the downer ending.

I know one of his wishes was to see a witches coven (like, the old-fashioned one where they get naked and dance around the fire), but I don't remember the other two.

I believe he went to make fun out of the pope, at one point...

I kept hearing references to it without knowing what it was, and actually looked it up for the first time a few moths ago, actually. So I have a basic understanding of the plot at this point, and even before, I'd figured out the gist of it from the references I'd heard.

Because of ND's typo, I think we should start keeping time in units of insects.

Oh, the topic? Really all I know about Faust is that he makes a deal with the devil and it has to do with souls. I kind of feel bad about not knowing more, but not bad enough to actually look it up.

I'd fix my typo, but it's funnier to leave it.

It was in my schoolbook a few years back. Granted, 'twas but a shortened version. Also, we should totally measure time in Moths.
