A message to people who played a "minor" role

Anything goes.

A message to people who played a "minor" role

Postby Lordxana0 on Mon Dec 03, 2012 2:46 am

I am sure a lot of you out there believe that you played a minor role in the overall mystery. I would like to say bullcrap to you and your ideas and anyone who believes it. Everyone here has done something, and that something can be as small as posting in the Coffee Room. But why is this important do you ask? Because you were here. Because you added to the greater part of a whole and you said "I will help in all manners I can". And without knowing it you did. You have made one person laugh or made one person think in a way they didn't before. Your post sent a Doctor House like epiphany on someone that allowed them to find the message in the code that no one else saw. Heck just making a profile told us that people were interested and made players want to do stuff to advance the story for these people. There are no small players in this. There are only Metaguards. We are not dictated by the color of someone's skin. The gender they are. What beliefs, ideologies, or sexual preferences they happen to have. By being here, by reading this, you are acting in the greater good. We are Metaguards, every one of us, we are the ones who seal the wall between fiction and reality. Always remember that you are important in ways that no one could possibly believe, ways that are impossible to track and are there. And finally I want to say thank you for being here, for helping us in the invisible way that no one could imagine.
Who you going to call? ME!

Yes. I helped. Somehow. Even though I managed to contribute precisely nothing to any forum topic or chatroom conversation outside of horrible jokes, fanboying about random crap, snark, insults, and moaning and griping about personal issues. Totally helped out here with the ARG, no doubt about it.

...Yeeeeeeah, trust me, buddy, you aren't convincing anybody- at the very least, not me.
So, apparently I'm the sanest madman this side of the international date line. Seems legit.

Too bad for you. He's convincing me, because he just so happens to be right

And exactly what is wrong with horrible jokes, moaning, or fanboy/girling about random crap? ;) (eeee Pratchett!)

Pratchett you say. I've got something for that: Make a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
oh look a derail.

OH NO YOU DIDN'T

...In response to Scarab, though- well, that sort of thing just isn't constructive. To me, if I'm not actively and directly contributing to the ARG efforts with echo finding and riddle solving and stuff, I'm not a part of the team- I'm just that one guy who hangs out on the team's turf and comments from the sidelines.

That's right LordXana speech even harder.

While I may consider myself a minor player seeing as the best I can pull off is a refic with no echoes available for me.

Regardless I apparently keep Eli sane which is surprising when I see myself as the crazy one.

Aww, that's beautiful. I agree with Lordxana. :D

For the others, it is worth noting when you don't feel like you're contributing as much as you want. But the little things can make a huge difference, and being there, being open to learning, giving even echos of thoughts can help a lot. Even noting that you aren't as engaged as you'd like to be can help GMs or other metaguards think more about new things could be tweaked or evolved going forward.

Maybe eliciting this kind of post, and the "I'm not doing much" replies was part of the plan all along! How's that to think about?

A sort of inversion of Follow The Plotted Line:

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... lottedLine
Wide Open Sandbox: "It's even kind of inverted at some points; you might have to go far out of your way to find a plot point, but the resulting cutscene will play out as though the player just happened to be around when the plot picks up."

Even though I really couldn't even find an echo, I helped.
Even though I really had to live with a lack of internet and only used it at school, I helped.
Even if some of the only major things I do involve Ponies, RPG's and Green Stuff, I helped.
Thank you, Lord, for this speech.

Perhaps so, Endless, but being sarcastic and about your supposed lack of invovlement isn't really productive either. You have no real way of knowing how many other people you effect here, or how, but I think it's safe to say everyone has at least a little effect on everyone else.

To everybody who has ever posted anything on this forum: You've kept me clicking around here for hours upon end. Without all of you, I wouldn't have been around for nearly as much time as I have been.

Oh man it hadn't occurred to me that it might have been interpreted in a negative light. Yes, my time here has been a good thing. At least, I think so. :D

*koffs and blushes* Yes, well... someone needed to be Mother in this black hole of chaos! *nods sharply, ignoring the little spider of uselessness crawling up her ankle*
The voices in my head tell me that we saved the world. However, they also told me that George Clooney's face is on the dollar bill, so... meh. The voices are more fun, anyway.
