I tried out the multiplayer. And I didn't enjoy it at all.
For starters (and this might be my game, I dunno), I couldn't actually tell what the pictures of the characters were until I was almost close enough to select them, making selecting a character annoying. But, I suspect that might just be my set-up, so eh.
First thought: The maps are really small. I was having extreme difficulty finding a place where I could stand still, and take a breather out of the constant "Oh god oh god oh god" state I was in because of being at about 4 health most of the time. This might not be so egregious, except that knock back and unexpected ends to the levels meant that more of us died to falling out of the world than to each other. Secondly, there is quite a bit of slant toward ranged combat, as I found that trying to get into melee whilst being shot at very, very hard due to my charges being stopped by the flinch damage animation. This might not be so bad, if there were actually decent melee weapons. Of the two I picked, I had for melee weapons a Blaze Rod and Splash Potions of Decay (which I couldn't actually throw without hitting myself, and given that they only lasted for 5 seconds each, using them was painful and hard). And since I can't actually aim at a decent target, this made actually trying to hurt someone really hard (I don't think I managed to kill anyone).
Then, the maker of this map decided to give everyone the maximum jump boost possible, permanently. Which wouldn't be so bad, if that jump boost wasn't high enough to give you a half-heart flinch animation, which screws with any attempt at running, or even landing smoothly that you can do unless you land 1-2 blocks higher than you jumped. Which is just another flinch animation that keeps triggering the "oh god I'm being attacked" bits of my brain.
Basically, there isn't any strategy to this thing other than the idea of "shoot/smack everyone else to death as fast as you can". I'm a bit biased here, but I'd like to have more strategy and thinking in my PvP than the mindless action that this seems to cause. Also, they give you potions of invisibility, which given that you can't take off your armor to be actually invisible, are useless.
I think you all have a fairly clear idea of what I think of this by this point.
