Urgh. OK, so that didn't work out very well either. If it were ANY other OS, that would have worked, but it just HAD to run on Windows Server 2003...

With elephants. I'll just have my father call the guy in the morning. Hopefully they know the password still... If they don't, I'll just have to go get another computer from the office and try with that.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Take that Murphy! You and your law cannot stop the power of the Metaguards!

Server is alive! WARNING: it is very possibly extraordinarily laggy. I have no idea. However, I am about to test.

Fair warning, while there appears to be very little jerkiness of movement, which is mostly the product of server connection problems, chunks are loading a little slowly, and machines appear to be lagging a bit, even if the player isn't. This is probably because the server is being run on an inferior system. I'll see what I can do about upgrading it shortly.

Basically: Great, smooth connection, not so great server behind it. I'll get working on it, though. I think if I add some more RAM for starters, that would probably help.

Alright, in an attempt to speed up the server, I've removed some unneeded stuff like the configuration telling the fileserver to act as a DNS server, uninstalled programs I don't need, and most of which I can't use anyway, because I don't own them. In addition, I ran a registry cleaner over it, and at the same time figured out that there are junk files everywhere and the disk is in SERIOUS need of defragging. As such, the server is currently offline while the computer tries to clean some of that up. However, I will return in about two and a half hours, and if it isn't done by then, which is entirely possible, I'll just pause it for now and get the server up for you.

I do not know how well the server will be functioning when I do, however. Last I checked, it was still a bit laggy with the machines and chunks, though improved over last night, and the connection was still going fine. Hopefully this will help out. I plan to buy a new CPU for this thing anyhow, and it won't cost me too much because I'm sure whatever CPU the motherboard can handle will be rather old by computer standards. I'm looking into that ATM, but until I can figure out the details, we are stuck with however fast I can make this one run.

OK. This is NOT working. >.< I'm going to open up the fileserver upstairs and check the motherboard model, then order a new CPU for it. That should get done tonight.

In the meantime, I need help. This has been down long enough, so I want someone to attempt to host the server over the next few days. I have already figured out everything you need to do it, and I can walk you through it if you do not know how. I will send the server files I am using to whoever accepts via sendspace. They take up about 40 Mb of space. You will have to edit a few lines of the file launch.bat, one line of the server properties file, and then allow the server past your modem via portforwarding. The entire process should go very fast.

HOWEVER, if you want to do this, it is best if your computer is NOT connected wirelessly to your modem, as that is often too slow. This does not require you to play minecraft, and it does not require you to have the game. Just host it for a few days.

I've done some research and figured out what I need to fix to get this server running decently. I'm going to order a second CPU for the fileserver, and also check with my internet provider to see how much upgrading my speed will cost. By my calculations, I need to get it up to about 2MB/s, but I have no idea how much that will cost, so we will see. CPU is cheap, though.

Anyhow, in the meantime, I've transferred my server back to my computer and am running it over LAN, attempting to fix up the place and make it presentable over the weekend, since I've got the time. I spent my evening figuring out an interior design scheme for WTF Labs, and eventually settled on stone brick and marble. I've cleaned up my first hallway pretty nicely, and shortly thereafter fixed up the room that transmutes flowers infinitely.

Take a look and tell me what you think.

The corridor:

The transmutation room:

I need to remove those torches in the second room. Oops. Probably also going to add a control board to get the wires out of the way.

If you have anything you want to challenge me to build, I'd be glad to take it. Currently, I'm trying to get my mind around the methods needed to automate production of Quantum Armor, the best in the game. It is NOT simple. I think I may end up building 32 separate nuclear reactors...

(Why did I jokingly say I was going to do that?)

Anyhow, anything you want me to try, I'll do what I can to throw it in.

Whoa, those labs look awesome. Also, Sicon, I'll challenge you a lot until I manage to get in the server. :P

BTW, I remember seeing an unusually fast and simple boat/water/pressure plate trail which seems to be very effective. In case you don't want/can't use rails, this works as an alternative (asides from looking interesting). But that's just an idea for you, not a real challenge. I could challenge you to, but I'm planning to build a certain thing with that technique myself, so I'm, not sure if I should.

Awesome... I have one question though... How big are you going to allow Dimensional Anchors in the server? Considering that keeping a bunch of chunks permanently loaded will likely cause some performance hit...

If you allow 5x5, I'll only need one. And I'll claim a 25 chunk area for a... Tiny little project... I have in mind. I might be able to fit it in a 3x3 area though... Need to do some tests in a creative map first.

EDIT: Scratch 5x5... >_< I'm building it with that size on my SSP and it takes too long to prep the field. So, In the SMP I'll make do with 3x3. :)

EDIT2: Get a Mercurial Eye. That's all. 5x5 awesomeness it is! >:D

So, I was thinking what if we could open an unmodded side server (or just change the word at Sicon's server for a few hours one day) and play SMP maps? Adventure Maps, Parkour Maps, PvP Maps, there are tons of maps out there, we could play some together. I've seen one called The Walls (and also, The Walls 2) in here, and they look very interesting.

Also, Sicon, I challenge you to build a computer using Tekkit, and find an use for it :P Well, if you do wanna try here are a few tutorials for the vanilla Minecraft.

It's actually easier in Tekkit, because it contains the mod "ComputerCraft" with actual computer parts. So... Yeah. I'll get to it eventually. Haven't messed with that mod yet, but I'm sure I will.

I expected it'd be easier, but I had fogotten ComputerCraft >_<

So lemme try to think of something else.

I know ONLY the alchemy part. :(
Although computers should be easier for me than the rest of the things... I'm still pissed at the fact that I can't transmute the pipes and wires out of the Tablet. >_<

If it helps, I still haven't figured any of it out. I just preemptively decided not to look at computers until I got everything else figured out. Also, I still have no oil pumps or anything, though I think I have the basic idea of it down. I just haven't figured out how to build a really cool looking oil platform yet. And also I'm afraid of blowing up my base, because you KNOW it's coming.

Ok... So... I got a combo of Alchemical Bag, Void Ring, full set of Gem Armor, Red Morningstar and Mercurial Eye.

Well... What remains from the NPC Village. ._.
Image

This tiny hole only goes down to bedrock.
Image

And this is what happens when you don't know what you're doing with your Mercurial Eye. That thing goes more or less to height 120.
Image

Well, essentially, that side of my world is pretty much dead. So.......
Sicon, please disable the right click power of the Morningstar in the server? ._. I can control myself into not clicking gratuitously with the Eye, or refrain from raining thunder upon helpless villagers... But a tool that can eat entire chunks of blocks in seconds? With automatically EMC conversion for Red Matter in a conveniently placed bag in the inventory? ._.

Evidently, I'm starting a new map. No way I can continue playing on that one, considering the damage done. But I'll keep the save, at least for a while.

PS.: The Gem Armor helm's thunderbolt turns Creepers into Supercreepers.

Edited for daytime pics.

Well, I was just collecting materials.... Then I ended eating up 2 whole chunks out of nowhere. Then I decided "screw it" and went spamming lightning bolts. ._. I don't even know why I did that.

....I totally have not had this problem. Ever. Anything anyone says to the contrary is a lie. I most definitely did not blow an enormous hole in the floor of that pretty hallway while I was first mining it out, and if Mimsy tells you I did, don't listen to him.

Really though, all you need to do is just shift+v until the morning star has no bar, and then it doesn't seem to do anything when you right click. Turn it on if you need it, then turn it off again right after. Oh, also, you need fuel/a klien star to use that, so you could just not carry any as well.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA DESTRUCTION CATALYSTS ARE AWESOME! Stuck in a cave? NO PROBLEM! Just look up at the roof, mutter the spell tenderly to the Mini-Hakke- Erm, Destruction Catalyst, AND RELEASE YOUR ANNIHILATION OF... umm... everything. Pro tip: Shout "HADOUKEN!" while you fire it. It makes it much more satisfying. ^^

Replaced the pics above for daytime ones.

The weird build thing was just spamming Mercurial eye to see how the modes worked. And the world holes were done in seconds with the Morningstar.

Create a dark matter pick with diamonds and dark matter, a dark matter shovel with the same material, and a dark matter hammer which is like the dark matter pick except with three diamonds up the middle instead of two, the top one replacing the middle dark matter of the pick. Then you upgrade all of those three dark matter tools to RED matter, but substituting red matter for dark matter and diamonds for dark matter, then slipping the dark matter tool you are upgrading in to replace one of the dark matter. Once you have all three red matter tools, you put them in the top left of the crafting bench and fill the rest with MORE red matter.
