Revealing our real names.

Anything goes.

Revealing our real names.

Postby The Wild West Pyro on Wed Dec 26, 2012 9:25 am

( Deep breath.)

It's about time, really.

It would be good if we could all reveal our real names for once.

So, if you're feeling brave, and are ready, and have the strength of Don Quixote in you, reveal it here.

Just your name.

I don't mean to rush you, take your time. I will not use it for anything at all.

Anyway, mine is:

Nicholas Wong.

It is OK if you don't want to- I'm not putting any pressure on you guys.

Well, my Twitter account and a few other links I've dropped here have had my real name attached to them.

Quoting from the list of metaguard Twitter accounts:

https://twitter.com/robynneblume - narrativedilettante

Given that information, it should come as no surprise that my real name is Robynne Blume. Actually my last name is Blumë but the special character gets left out a lot for technical reasons. (And don't try looking for an internal logic to that surname, my family came from Germany and they tried to Americanize their name and they did a terrible job, creating something that doesn't work at all in German and barely works in English.) My last name is meant to be pronounced like "blew me" and yes I've been made fun of for it and heard all the jokes and you don't need to repeat them here. My first name is pronounced like my title. :gurt:

And, Pyro, I'm sure there are lots of people who aren't going to want to reveal their real names. I want to make sure no one feels under any pressure to do so. It's an individual choice, and everyone has a right to as much privacy and anonymity as they want. If a metaguard never reveals their real name that's fine and acceptable.

I don't get the point. I've been using the name Scarab for over ten years online. So far as I'm cooncerned it's no less real than the one I sign stuff with.

Agreed. Really, I am not [redacted][redacted] on here. I'm Krika. Even if it's made-up, it's no less real than who I actually am (which I am sure we can all agree on given the metric ton of meta and real fiction that has gone on here).

Well, my full (chosen) name is already on the forums, but I'll repost it here. (And this has nothing at all to do with giving a pronunciation guide. No, nothing at all.)

Tohrinha Dasteme
(toh-RIHN-hah or tohr-IHN-hah) (dah-SHTEH-meh)

This is the name I have chosen, and for all intents and purposes here, it is my real name.

I'm Lieutenant General Alaki, the resident tank of the Forged elite. My bro, who occasionally screws around with this account as well and is a bit more of a stuck-up asshat that I am, is General Alton, an agent of the Forged and the commander of the Myrmidon task force.

Fun fact: my author was the one who actually made this account. No clue what his name is, probably something like "Endless Sea" or something. :P

...Who the hell is this Don Quixote guy again? Sounds like the resident god of truth in some religion or other. *shruuuuuuuug*
So, apparently I'm the sanest madman this side of the international date line. Seems legit.

Essentially, I am Genndy Oda C.O.G. It's about as real as my other online names, Trevor Wilson and Timoshi Kagiya. I simply use them for different purposes.

I'm not trolling anyone. I spoke honestly, and gave the names of the three personas in this slightly misshapen skull. They simply do different things. I manage the online resources, Timoshi heads the legal/debate department, and Trevor works PR.

Similarly, I'm quite fond of roleplaying as Alaki and Alton. It helps me restrict myself to one of two semi-distinct facets of my personality, whereas normally the way I act tends to vary at the drop of a hat (not to mention it's SO FUN :D ). I understand this isn't the place for that sort of thing, but I think it helps regardless of that fact, considering my previously mentioned author avatars haven't really gotten much exposure outside of my occasional short story or brainstorming session.

...Oh, yeah, there's also how it lets me dodge the question and play up my ignorance a bit when I need to, that's always nice. ^^ Not to troll or anything, just to point out things without sounding too dickish and stuff like that. :P

No trolling is intended whatsoever, trust me. Just saying how it is for me :)

I'm not sure about personas, but I have always ascribed to the belief that every individual in the world has many aspects of their personality which often make them seem like completely different people. Who you show those facets to depends on who you are, or what your mood is, or who you're with. Personality is not as set in stone as it often appears to be in fiction. I behave, for example, quite differently here to how I would while with my parents, but neither of those aspects of me are fake, or a persona, they're just different parts of me.

So Scarab and my real name (which is buzzing around here somewhere) may not quite be the same person, but they're both equally me :)

agoraoptera, CerebrateBen, Aka Gezurra, Homo Ludens, 正义天璇 or justashigh. Each of them are equally applicable, though I reserve Homo Ludens and Aka Gezurra for gaming, mostly.

I'm open enough about my name through Twitter and the Character page but just as a reminder it's Jonathan or Jon not John there is no h in it.

My last name is Rizko which is Lebanese which is my background but I don't care. And yes it is prone to misspelling or bad pronunciation.

Well, hell, there's really no point in my being anywhere near secretive about my real name. If you were to google "BlackWolfe Coyoten", I'm the entire first page of hits and most of the second page as well (the wikipedia page for the european black wolf, a blog for coyote hunters, and a wildlife blog also show up around there) and the fourth site listed on page one will tell you my real name.

It's Padraic Dewey.

Funnily one of my odler family names is Kendall, Kendall being an early viking settlement. I see your celtic and add Norse to the mix :D (okay so it's hiiighly unlikely I have Viking ancestry, but a girl can dream.)

My middle name is McIvor, which is an awesome name, partly because it sounds almost identical to MacGuyver.
